Impact Shannon will not compete this season until a complete review of his situation is completed to ultimately determine there are no possible issues. The school wants to ensure all NCAA rules were followed after Shannon initially declared for the NBA Draft in April and then later withdrew his name to return to Lubbock for another year. It's unclear when this process could be wrapped up, as the Red Raiders will be without one of their top players for the near future.

Impact McCullar and fellow swingman Terrence Shannon both sat out of a recent scrimmage against Wichita State. McCullar came back with a very productive game on both sides of the ball, while Shannon remained out. McCullar has the ability to play any of the five positions and is one of the most versatile athletes in the conference.

Impact This is the second closed scrimmage that Shannon has been held out. It's unclear at this time if the star forward has any risk of missing the season-opener next week against North Florida. Sardaar Calhoun and Bryson Williams would be candidates to start in Shannon's place if he can't go.

Kevin Obanor - Expected to play key role Coach Mark Adams indicated Wednesday that he anticipates Obanor being "a key ingredient" to the team in 2021-22, Carlos Silva Jr. of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
Impact Obanor dominated last season at Oral Roberts, nearly averaging a double-double with 18.6 points and 9.6 boards per contest. While he may not see quite as much success now that he's stepped up his competition a notch, it certainly sounds as though he's impressing his new coaching staff and is slated for a large role with the Red Raiders.

Impact No reason was given for Shannon's absence, but both he and fellow projected key contributor Kevin McCullar did not participate in the contest. Assuming this isn't anything serious, Shannon's next chance to take the court will be the season opener Nov. 9 against North Florida. He and Oral Roberts transfer Kevin Obanor are expected to be a formidable duo at the wings for the Red Raiders in 2021-22.

Impact It's unclear what's holding the presumed starting shooting guard out at this time, but it will be a situation worth monitoring leading up to the Nov. 9 opener against North Florida. It's possible this is just precautionary, but should he have to miss any game action, FSU transfer Sardaar Calhoun would be one candidate to pick up extra minutes in his stead.

Impact Batcho was one of multiple players to transfer from Arizona following the 2020-21 season and appears to be healthy well ahead of the upcoming campaign.
