Emmitt Matthews - Nursing shoulder injury Matthews did not play in West Virginia's scrimmage last Saturday due to a shoulder injury, Anjelica Trinone of Gold and Blue Nation reports.
Impact It's unclear at this point what the severity of the shoulder injury is. Coach Bob Huggins will certainly hope to have Matthews' services for the opener on Nov. 7 against Mount St. Mary's. Matthews is in his second stint with West Virginia after a stop at Washington last season where he averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

Tre Mitchell - Seen in walking boot Mitchell was seen in a walking boot at West Virginia's gold and blue scrimmage Friday, Blue Gold News reports.
Impact It is unclear what Mitchell's timeline for recovery is, but this news certainly puts into question his status for the season opener versus Mt. St. Mary's on Nov. 7. The senior forward averaged 8.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks in 18.8 minutes across 24 games last season. Emmitt Matthews is in line to start at power forward until Mitchell returns.

Jimmy Bell - Expected to start at center Bell will likely start at center for West Virginia to begin the 2022-23 campaign, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Bell spent his first two collegiate seasons at Saint Louis and averaged 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per game. He transferred to West Virginia in April and has shed nearly 70 pounds since joining the program. He should have the chance to handle a large role in the frontcourt to begin the year while Tre Mitchell likely starts at power forward.

Erik Stevenson - Cleared for 2022-23 season Stevenson has been approved by the NCAA to play in this upcoming season as a graduate transfer, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Stevenson has been granted eligibility for the 2022-23 season by the NCAA and will be allowed to play with West Virginia. This is the graduate senior's fourth school after he has played at South Carolina, Washington and Wichita State.
