How Purdue has turned into college basketball's big man factory

Big men continue to thrive at Purdue, even in the 3-point era. Andy Katz explains the school's recent success in the paint.

Impact Edey is coming off of his second double-double in the last four games and is averaging 18.0 points and 8.8 boards since moving to the bench Dec. 18. He has been rewarded with a starting spot again Saturday, though that likely doesn't improve his outlook much from a fantasy standpoint considering his minutes are typically capped around 20 on a given day.

Posts double-double in loss Edey chipped in 24 points (10-17 FG, 4-8 FT), 10 rebounds and two assists over 20 minutes during Monday's 74-69 loss to Wisconsin.

Impact Edey came off the bench for a fourth consecutive game Monday, but he led the Boilermakers in scoring and rebounds en route to his fourth double-double of the season. He's scored in double figures in each of the last four matchups and has averaged 18.0 points and 8.8 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per contest across that span.

Impact Although Edey shifted to a bench role in Saturday's matchup, he was heavily involved in the blowout win and posted his first double-double in over a month. While it's not yet clear whether Edey or Trevion Williams will start going forward, both players have had plenty of opportunities for fantasy production this year.

Impact Edey had started every game this season prior to Saturday, but the Boilers will go a little smaller against what is a smaller Bulldogs starting five in general. Williams figures to give them a bit more versatility on the defensive end of the floor, which could lead to slightly fewer minutes for Edey, who is coming off of a season-low 12 minutes versus N.C. State.

Impact Edey didn't have many looks from the floor in Friday's matchup, but he remained productive on the boards while maintaining his starting role. Despite playing 20-plus minutes in just two of the first eight games of the season, he's scored in double figures six times to begin the year. The sophomore is averaging 15.5 points and 7.1 rebounds in 18.3 minutes per contest.

After leading the Boilermakers on the scoreboard Sunday, the sophomore is now averaging 17.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in 19.0 minutes per game this season.

Impact Edey saw a bigger role than expected as a freshman, as he was able to post 8.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks across just 14.6 minutes, all despite the presence of heralded big man Trevion Williams. He'll still have Williams in the mix, but those per-minute numbers are stellar enough to warrant a roster spot in many fantasy formats. Edey will be the first off the bench if Williams sees any quick whistles, plus he'll be key to defending the many menacing big men of the Big Ten conference.
