Struggles to connect in loss Brewer completed 15 of 26 passes for a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 26-17 loss to BYU. He also rushed four times for 20 yards.
Impact BYU was known for its prolific offense last season, but they also have a stalwart defense that isn't often mentioned. Brewer and the Utes felt the full brunt of it Saturday and could only muster two touchdowns. Brewer was able to string together a couple of drives and make a game of it in the fourth quarter, but it ultimately wasn't enough. The team has a lot of talent, and Brewer will improve as he adjusts to the starting role after transferring from Baylor.

Impact Brewer's first game as a Ute went off without a hitch, as the Baylor transfer looked comfortably in charge of the offense. Brewer benefits from several elite weapons around him, and as the newly-minted starter, he should see some improvement as he takes reps with the first team.

Impact Brewer was in tough competition with Cameron Rising to lay claim to the starting job for Utah but ultimately won out following his transfer in from Baylor following the 2020 campaign. The senior has a solid career under center from his time with the Bears, finishing with a completion percentage of 61.5 percent or greater in all four of his seasons while owning a career 65:28 TD:INT ratio.
