Back to the bench Tupou'ata-Johnson will return to his backup role on Saturday against CMU as Danny O'Neil returns to the field, Kirk Kenney of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact Tupou'ata-Johnson, who started in place of the injured Danny O'Neil (knee) in Week 3 against California, will resume his backup role in Week 5. The 6-foot-4 freshman quarterback threw for 156 yards (13-of-29), one touchdown and two interceptions against the Golden Bears.

Impact With Danny O'Neil (knee) sidelined, Tupou'ata-Johnson was tasked with his first collegiate start in a tough matchup with Cal. It did not go well for the true freshman, who threw a pair of interceptions though he managed to boost his final line with a 40-yard touchdown throw to Jordan Napier in the fourth quarter.
