Impact After being named QB2 in 2021 and missing spring practices due to arm soreness, it seemed like McCarthy was at a sizable disadvantage to win QB1 heading into the fall. Despite all that he's had to overcome, McCarthy is still very much entangled in a quarterback battle with Cade McNamara and the competition may even continue into the regular season.

Impact After missing spring practices with lingering arm soreness and being QB2 last season, McCarthy seemed to be at a sizable disadvantage heading into fall camp for the Wolverines. Despite these obstacles, McCarthy has been splitting time with McNamara and neither of the quarterbacks have claimed the QB1 title. The true freshman threw for 516 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions last season while also adding on 124 yards and two scores. The young quarterback lost out to McNamara in the quarterback battle last season, so he is likely using this to motivate him to perform at his best as the summer concludes.
