Impact After battling with Preston Stone throughout the offseason, Mordecai has fended off the highly touted recruit to retain the starting role for SMU despite the coaching change. Mordecai played in 12 games last season and completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,628 yards and 39 touchdowns. New coach Rhett Lashlee stated that Stone will still play this season, which is something to note for fantasy managers as Mordecai could cede some snaps to his backup beyond just garbage time. Still, Mordecai is positioned to post fantasy-relevant production at the helm of SMU's explosive offense.

Headed for competition in fall camp Mordecai will compete with Preston Stone over the summer and into fall camp before a starting quarterback will be decided, Billy Embody of On3.com reports.
Impact Mordecai posted an impressive 2021 campaign under center for the Mustangs, completing 67.8 percent of his 454 pass attempts for 3,628 yards and a 39:12 TD:INT ratio. That would normally buy you some security, but it appears Stone is also putting on a show, making the decision a difficult one. If Mordecai loses out, to Stone, it wouldn't be shocking to see him enter the transfer portal.
