Tyler Shough - Officially named starter Shough has been named the Week 1 starter, Eric Kelly of KAMC reports.

Impact Shough has been the guy all throughout camp. It was just a matter of time before he was eventually named the starter. Shough will look to make Texas Tech competitive in the Big 12 after leading Oregon to a Pac-12 title last season.

Tyler Shough - First-team QB in scrimmage Shough lead the first-team offense in Saturday's team scrimmage, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.

Impact Head coach Matt Wells is expected to to decide on a starter for the opener against Houston in the coming days and all signs point toward it being Shough. The Oregon transfer threw for 1,559 yards and 13 touchdowns over seven games last season.

JJ Sparkman - Not participating Saturday Sparkman is wearing his jersey but won't work out during Saturday's scrimmage, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.

Impact It's unclear if Sparkman is dealing with some sort of injury or if he's just a healthy scratch from the scrimmage. Regardless, he isn't expected to have a rotational role in the offense this year whether he's healthy or not.

Impact Cantrell did not see any action in 2020 despite being dressed for every single game. It's possible he may just be a healthy scratch for Saturday's scrimmage or he may be dealing with some sort of unknown injury.

SaRodorick Thompson - Won't scrimmage Saturday Thompson (shoulder) will not be in pads for Saturday's scrimmage, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.

Impact Thompson underwent shoulder surgery in April and it appears the team is still taking a cautious approach when it comes to incorporating him into certain team activities. The team still has not provided an updated statement on his potential status for the Sept. 4 season opener against Houston.
