Virginia Tech shakes off pesky Delaware State behind Lawal's 23 points in 83-60 win

Toibu Lawal scored 23 points and Mylyjael Poteat scored 14 points and Virginia Tech beat Delaware State 83-60 in a season opener for both teams

Da'Quan Felton - Matches season-high in catches Felton caught 4 of 6 targets for 36 yards during Saturday's 38-31 overtime defeat against Syracuse.

Impact Felton's four grabs tied a season high, but unlike in Week 6 against Stanford, he couldn't parlay that into a touchdown or even a significant yardage output. He's now seen six targets in consecutive games, however, and will look to build on that next week in a tough matchup with Clemson.

Ali Jennings - Scores on lone reception Jennings reeled in their only target for 12 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 38-31 overtime loss against Syracuse.

Impact Jennings only saw one throw all day, but he reeled in the catch for a 12-yard score. It was just the receiver's fifth catch of the season.

Stephen Gosnell - Eclipses 100 yards Gosnell accrued five receptions (on eight targets) for 118 yards during Saturday's 38-31 overtime loss against Syracuse.

Impact Gosnell hit the 100-yard mark for the first time this season. His eight targets were also a season-high. Notably, this spike in production came with a new quarterback, Colin Schlee, under center. If Kyron Drones is forced to miss another start and Schlee gets the nod once again, Gosnell could be a sneaky good play if his chemistry with the new starting quarterback is legit.

Malachi Thomas - Leads backfield in place of Tuten Thomas recorded 14 carries for 73 yards and one touchdown and reeled in all two targets for 15 yards during Saturday's 38-31 overtime loss against Syracuse.

Impact Thomas wasn't the Hokies' leading rusher in the absence of Bhashul Tuten - that was Jeremiah Coney. Still, he paced the backfield in carries without the star tailback available. Tuten appeared close to playing against the Orange, but if he's forced to miss another week, Thomas figures to be a good handcuff option once again.

Jeremiah Coney - Nears 100 yards in loss Coney had nine rushes for 96 yards during Saturday's 38-31 overtime defeat versus Syracuse.

Impact Coney finished as the Hokies leading rusher in their committee approach to replacing superstar Bhayshul Tuten. His nine carries were easily a season high, and he made good use of them with 96 yards. However, he was still out-paced in touches by Malachi Thomas.

NOVEMBER 4 • ROTOWIRE

Collin Schlee - Scores twice in place of Drones Schlee completed 16 of 24 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 38-31 overtime defeat to Syracuse. He also had 19 rushes for 54 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Schlee put together a respectable performance in the absence of starter Kyron Drones, but it wasn't enough to knock off the Orange. Schlee may very well start again, as there's currently no timetable for Drones' return. He's not a terrible option for the Hokies, as he does offer some dual-threat ability and was solid as a passer against Syracuse. Still, with such a small sample size, he's hard to trust from a fantasy perspective.

Impact Tuten will finish the day with just one carry for one yard after he was initially ruled a game-time decision. Malachi Thomas and Jeremiah Coney should continue to split reps in his absence. The senior Tuten's status will be worth monitoring ahead of next week's matchup with Clemson.

Kyron Drones - On sidelines in boot Drones (foot) is in sweats and in a boot on the sidelines of Saturday's game at Syracuse, Andy Bitter of Tech Sidelines reports.

Impact Drones was ruled out for Saturday's game and now it's more clear why. He has a boot on his left foot, indicating the injury may be more serious than previously thought. His next chance to play is next Saturday versus Clemson.

Bhayshul Tuten - Not starting Saturday Tuten (lower leg) is not starting Saturday's game at Syracuse, The Tech Lunch Pail reports.

Impact Tuten, who was a game-time decision, did not start Saturday's game as Malachi Thomas saw the first reps at running back. This does not rule Tuten out, but it's certainly not a good sign.

Impact Drones took part in warmups as usual, but it appears an issue that popped up late last week will keep the start signal-caller out of commission for at least a contest. Collin Schlee will draw the start in his place.

Bhayshul Tuten - Warming up Saturday Tuten (lower leg) has been spotted warming up ahead of the Hokies' clash with Syracuse, per Andy Bitter of Tech Sidelines.

Impact Tuten reportedly has his cleats and ankles taped while giving it a go in early warm-ups. Tuten remains firmly questionable, but it's clear that the tailback is doing everything in his power to play after it was reported that he's firmly questionable after being limited in practice. The star running back has 950 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this fall.

Kyron Drones - Warming up vs. Orange Drones (undisclosed) is warming up ahead of the Hokies' clash with Syracuse, Andy Bitter of Tech Sidelines reports.

Impact There were notions that the starting quarterback could be limited, but Drones is warming up ahead early. The quarterback appears good to go, but it'll be worth monitoring his status as kickoff draws closer. The dual threat gunslinger has thrown for 1,447 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 324 yards and six scores.

The star tailback was considered probable earlier in the week due to positive reports about his availability and confidence from his teammates that he'd play, but this could throw a wrench in Tuten's availability if he's suffered a mid-week setback. The Hokies' top dog in the backfield is now firmly questionable for Saturday.
