Impact Johnson didn't find the end zone like a couple of his teammates, but he still was the focal point of the passing game. The Alcorn State was targeted 10 times, and he now has 34 catches for 474 yards and four touchdowns.

Impact Messer has had a consistent role for the Hilltoppers. Though this is his first 100-yard game of the season, he has at least four catches in each of his last five games. On top of that, Messer returns kicks, so clearly the staff sees something in his ability.

Dalvin Smith - Finds the end zone Smith caught two passes for 39 yards and a score Thursday against UTEP.

Impact Smith was a strong secondary receiver the last couple years, and some expected him to take over as the number-one guy with Malachi Corley moving onto the NFL. Instead, Kisean Messer and Easton Messer have risen above him on the depth chart, and Smith has all of 162 yards on the season.

Michael Mathison - Totals three TDs Mathison caught two passes for 17 yards and two touchdowns and ran two times for 16 yards and a score versus UTEP on Thursday.

Impact Three touchdowns on four touches certainly stands out. However, he only has 10 touches total on the season, and his role has significantly diminished from even last year. That feels intentional.

Elijah Young - Rushes for 60 yards Young ran 16 times for 60 yards Thursday against UTEP.

Impact Young has the largest role that a running back has had in the Hilltoppers offense in recent memory. That includes in the passing game. Though he only had one catch for eight yards against the Miners, he has 21 catches on the season. The one problem is he only has two touchdowns, and they both came against Eastern Kentucky.

Caden Veltkamp - Tallies four TDs, INT Veltkamp went 18-for-27 for 264 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception against UTEP on Thursday. He also picked up 29 rushing yards and a touchdown, though 25 of those yards...

Impact While Veltkamp through another pick, after having three turnovers in each of his last two games having only one is an improvement. Pairing that turnover with four touchdowns more than makes up for it, and with TJ Finley in a walking boot, the job remains his with an easy conference schedule coming up.

TJ Finley - Out Thursday, in boot Finley (lower leg) is in a walking boot ahead of Thursday's game versus UTEP, Jeff Nations of Bowling Green Daily News reports.

Impact Finley suffered a lower leg injury in Week 3 and has been on the sidelines since. Head coach Tyson Helton said that the timeline for Finley's return is still uncertain, but the fact that Finley is in a boot is not a great sign. In the meantime, Caden Veltcamp will continue to start at quarterback for the Hilltoppers.

Impact Messer has not been the kind of big-play receiver you expect from a kick returner, but he has been a solid secondary option for the Hilltoppers. He has at least three catches in every game, and he has two touchdowns in his last three outings.

Impact Ever since head coach Tyson Helton adopted his current offensive scheme (ported over entirely from then-Houston Baptist), there has been a receiver for the Hilltoppers who has gotten a ton of targets, and in turn racked up a lot of receptions and yards. Sometimes, they also bring the touchdowns. In 2024, that guy is Johnson. Let's ignore the opener against Alabama for obvious reasons. In his last four games, Johnson has 27 catches for 377 yards and four scores.

Elijah Young - Rare workload for a WKU back Young ran 21 times for 85 yards and caught five passes for 22 yards against Boston College on Saturday.

Impact The Hilltoppers are not a team that gives 20 carries to running backs. This is truly rare, and also a real vote of confidence in Young. Also, Young has been part of the passing game, as he 20 catches through five outings.

Caden Veltkamp - Two more TDs, three more turnovers Veltkamp went 25-for-39 for 232 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions against Boston College on Saturday. He ran for 16 yards, but also lost a fumble.

Impact In his three games as the primary QB for the Hilltoppers, Veltkamp has performed in a way that is rich with incident. He has eight touchdown passes, and also three rushing scores. However, he's also turned the ball over three times in each of his last two starts.
