Impact Entering his fourth season with WKU, the expectation was that Smith would be the number-one target for the passing game, or at least a steady and reliable second option. Instead, he has nine catches for 93 yards through four games.

Kisean Johnson - The guy for the Hilltoppers Johnson caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown versus Toledo on Saturday.
Impact The presumption was that Dalvin Smith, a WKU contributor for a few seasons, would step into the role as the number-one receiver, a great role to have in this offense. Instead, it's clearly Johnson, an Alcorn State transfer, who has taken that role. He has 20 catches over the last three weeks and has averaged over 100 yards with three total touchdowns.

Elijah Young - Remains part of passing game Young ran nine times for 36 yards and had three catches for 32 yards against Toledo on Saturday.
Impact If you thought maybe WKU would actually turn to the running game with starting quarterback TJ Finley (leg) out, yeah, that didn't happen. Young was comfortably the most-used back, and all he got was nine carries. However, he does have 15 receptions through four games.

Caden Veltkamp - Three TDs, three turnovers Veltkamp went 20-for-30 for 242 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against Toledo on Saturday. He ran for 20 yards with two touchdowns, but fumbled twice, losing one.
Impact Veltkamp set the bar awfully high for himself by throwing for five touchdowns in each of his first two college starts. This was definitely a mixed bag, but Toledo is usually one of the better Group of Five teams, and looked the part coming into this one. TJ Finley (leg) is expected to miss weeks, so Veltkamp will have an opportunity to find his rhythm as the guy for the Hilltoppers.

Caden Veltkamp - Named Week 4 starter Veltkamp was named Western Kentucky's starter for Week 4 against Toledo, Jeff Nations of Bowling Green Daily News reports.
Impact Veltkamp is coming off an unbelievable performance against Middle Tennessee in which he completed 27-of-30 passes for 398 yards and five touchdowns. That dazzling showing has earned him the starting role for the Hilltoppers against Toledo, as he'll step into the top gunslinger spot with TJ Finely out for multiple weeks.

Impact While this is Helms' first touchdown on the year, he has nine catches for 92 yards, which is notable for a tight end. Though it does appear he will do better than last season when he had 22 catches for 289 yards, for fantasy-minded folks to really get invested, he'll need to pick it up a bit.

Impact This is Messer's first touchdown of the season, but he has 12 catches for 135 yards through three games. However, with Kisean Johnson emerging after joining the Hilltoppers from Alcorn State, it seems like Messer's ceiling is third in the pecking order.

Impact Last year, Johnson had 61 catches for 829 yards and seven touchdowns for Alcorn State. He transferred to WKU, which runs a pass-heavy offense. While Johnson did nothing against Alabama, that's not surprising. The last two weeks he has 14 catches for 248 yards and two scores.
