Chez Mellusi - Stepping away from program Mellusi will step away from the Badgers program indefinitely, Colten Bartholomew of Badger Extra reports.

Impact Mellusi will step away from the program to continue rehabbing injuries that have prevented him from playing to his own expectations. This means Tamee Walker, Cade Yacamelli and Jackson Acker will be in line to see more touches out of the backfield, with Walker potentially becoming the starter. Mellusi is in his fourth year with the Badgers after spending the first two seasons of his college career at Clemson. Mellusi has rushed 56 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns across four appearances while adding six catches (on 10 targets) for 17 yards.

Will Pauling - Totals 11 yards in loss Pauling gathered in two catches on seven targets for 11 yards during Saturday's 38-21 defeat to USC.

Impact Pauling logged his fewest receiving yards of any game since transferring to Wisconsin in 2022. The redshirt junior still led the team in targets, but he struggled to connect with quarterback Braedyn Locke, who was making his first start of the year in place of Tyler Van Dyke (knee-ACL). Pauling caught nine of 11 targets for 83 yards and touchdown when Locke played almost the entire game against Alabama two weeks ago, and he was the quarterback's No. 1 target when he started three games last year. This should leave some optimism that Pauling will get back on track during next week's home game versus a 1-3 Purdue squad.

Chez Mellusi - Sees 10 touches in loss Mellusi recorded 10 rushes for 32 yards during Saturday's 38-21 defeat to USC.

Impact Mellusi logged his least-productive rushing performance since suffering a season-ending leg injury against Purdue in Week 4 last year. The sixth-year senior also tallied fewer carries than Oklahoma transfer Tawee Walker, who logged 12 carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns Saturday. Walker and Mellusi have been splitting primary rushing duties when both are healthy so far this season, and Saturday's workload wasn't a significant depature from this gameplan. However, it was somewhat surprising that the Badgers only had 25 team rushing attempts in a game where backup quarterback Braedyn Locke threw 26 times in his first start in place of Tyler Van Dyke (knee-ACL). It will be worth monitoring if Wisconsin doesn't emphasize running the ball more during this coming Saturday's home game against 1-3 Purdue.

Tawee Walker - Scores twice in loss Walker had 12 carries for 55 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 38-21 loss against USC.

Impact Walker finished off both of the Badgers' trips into the red zone in the first half. He first ran untouched for a 18-yard score on the first play after a muffed punt early in the second quarter. Walker then capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a strong four-yard touchdown run. His scoring opportunities dried up as the Badgers' offense was shut down in the second half, though the 218-pound senior still led the team in rushing attempts and yards ahead of Chez Mellusi, who logged 10 carries for 32 yards. It's somewhat surprising that these two did not see more carries with quarterback Braedyn Locke making his first start of the season in place of Tyler Van Dyke (knee-ACL). Walker and Mellusi will likely continue to split carries when the Badgers host 1-3 Purdue at Camp Randall this coming Saturday.

Vinny Anthony II - Catches 63-yard score Saturday Anthony caught three of four targets for 70 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 38-21 loss to USC.

Impact Anthony has been listed as a co-starter for each game so far this season, and he finally flashed in what was the best performance of his career Saturday. The 6-foot junior opened the game by beating his man downfield and hauling in an impressive 63-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Anthony caught just one more pass for the rest of the game, though he brought a spark in the second half with a 74-yard kickoff return to the USC 18-yard line. He also finished with the team's third-most targets behind Bryson Green (five) and go-to slot receiver Will Pauling (seven). Anthony's notable performance could help him to remain a consistent target for quarterback Braedyn Locke, who's starting now that Tyler Van Dyke (knee-ACL) is out for the rest of the year.

Braedyn Locke - Up-and-down in first start of 2024 Locke was 13-for-26 passing for 180 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Saturday's 38-21 defeat to USC.

Impact Locke got out to a 21-10 lead in his first start in place of Tyler Van Dyke (knee-ACL). The redshirt sophomore went 6-for-11 passing for 130 yards in the first half, including a 63-yard touchdown to Vinny Anthony and a 35-yard completion on another go-ball for Bryson Green. But, Locke and the Badgers' offense then completely fell flat, getting outscored 28-0 in the second half. They hit rock bottom when one of Locke's passes was deflected up into the air downfield and was intercepted by linebacker Mason Cobb for a 55-yard pick-six. Aside from two deep passes in the first half, Locke showed no significant improvements from his near-full game performance after Van Dyke was injured against Alabama two weeks ago. Locke and the Badgers' offense will look to pick things back up when they welcome 1-3 Purdue to Camp Randall this coming Saturday.
