Comes back for wild playoff win Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open on the third playoff hole after his six-under 66 in the final round. Impact Morikawa took a three shot lead into the weekend after rounds of 65-66. He did not show the same form in round three, but was able to pick it up on Sunday. The former Cal standout fell behind a red-hot Justin Thomas by three strokes with three to play, but did not waver. His birdie on 17 combined with a pair of bogeys at 16 and 18 for Thomas meant a playoff. Morikawa would watch Thomas drain a 50-footer for birdie on the first playoff hole and he calmly stepped up and knocked in a 25-footer of his own to move it to the next hole. A poor drive on the third playoff hole for Thomas allowed Morikawa to two-putt for an easy par and win his second PGA Tour event. His ball striking is world class and if he ever gets a consistent putter to go with it he has World No. 1 potential. Morikawa will look to go back-to-back at Muirfield Village next week.
