Shuts down Yankees Manoah (1-0) was dominant in Monday's 3-0 win over the Yankees, allowing one run and four walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven.
Impact The young right-hander's control wavered at times and he threw only 52 of 89 pitches for strikes, but Manoah made sure the Yankees weren't able to take advantage by preventing any hard contact -- the only hit New York managed was a Joey Gallo single in the second inning that only made it through the infield because of a defensive shift. Manoah will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start, at home Saturday against the A's.

Impact Facing most of New York's Opening day lineup, Manoah allowed consistent traffic on the bases but was able to shut down any potential rallies, inducing double plays in the second and third innings and striking out the final two batters he faced in Josh Donaldson and Joey Gallo. Manoah has had a solid start to the spring, posting a 5:3 K:BB through 5.1 innings, and the 24-year-old right-hander is looking to take a step forward after his impressive 2021 big-league debut.
