Disastrous against Atlanta Wood (5-6) allowed six earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Thursday against Atlanta.

Impact Wood got through the first inning having allowed only a solo home run. However, he was completely unable to locate his pitches in the second inning, walking two and hitting another batter with a pitch. Wood wasn't hit all that hard in the frame, as he allowed only three singles -- two of which didn't leave the infield. Even so, it was a disastrous outing for Wood and marked the third time this season he's allowed five or more earned runs in an outing. Overall, he owns a 5.05 ERA with 65:20 K:BB across 67.2 frames on the season.

Impact The veteran left-hander was coming off two quality starts in a row, but his momentum was foiled by the Pirates. The major damage came in the bottom of the third when Diego Castillo took Wood deep for a three-run shot. Despite not pitching particularly well in what looked on paper like a favorable matchup, the Giants were able to take advantage of Pirates bullpen and give Wood the run support he needed for the win. Wood will carry a pedestrian 4.32 ERA into his next expected start at Atlanta on Thursday.

Impact Wood allowed a run-scoring single in the second and then retired 11 of the next 12 batters he faced. He was removed with one out in the sixth following a single by Jorge Soler, who would later score. Opposing batters are 14-for-29 against Wood the third time through the lineup and, as a result, the lefty is averaging less than five innings per start. His next opportunity will likely be in the middle of next week against Colorado.
