Geraldo Perdomo - Swipes fourth bag Perdomo went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins.

Impact The shortstop has four steals on the season, but three of them have come in his last two games as he adds another element to his blistering start. Through 91 plate appearances, Perdomo is slashing .373/.460/.573 with two homers, 15 runs and 18 RBI, and while his .448 BABIP won't last, the 23-year-old appears to have locked down the starting job for Arizona -- a role that could belong to Perdomo for a while, as top prospect Jordan Lawlar seems to have hit a wall at Double-A.

Merrill Kelly - Settles for no-decision Wednesday Kelly didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.

Impact The right-hander tossed 61 of 97 pitches for strikes as he gave Arizona at least six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts, but Kelly exited with the game tied 4-4, giving him no shot at his fourth win. He'll take a 3.18 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB through 45.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come early next week in Oakland.

Alek Thomas - Returns to starting lineup Thomas started in center field and went 0-for-2 with an RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins.

Impact Thomas made his first start since Saturday, a stretch that included one righty and two lefties. He was eventually removed for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning against lefty reliever Tanner Scott. The outfielder's is 1-for-33 (.030) against southpaws, and it appears to be costing him at-bats. His underlying numbers suggest bad luck, but he's noticed pitchers are attacking a weakness, balls on the outside part of the plate, per Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. "That's all they're doing is painting away, painting away," Thomas said. "It's probably a good idea. If they bring it somewhere in the zone, I feel like I'll be able to hit it." Thomas is slashing .196/.259/.333 over 112 plate appearances.

Andrew Chafin - Enters tied game, takes loss Chafin (2-1) was the losing pitcher in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Miami. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out two over one-plus innings.

Impact Chafin was brought into a non-save situation in the eighth inning -- perhaps because the left-hander had pitched since Saturday -- and had a clean inning before giving up a leadoff double in the ninth. It was the second straight outing that resulted in an adverse result. The last time out, Chafin allowed four hits and three runs in a blown save.

He continues to be a short-side platoon option at third base and designated hitter.

Brandon Pfaadt - Not much better in second start Pfaadt (0-1) took the loss Tuesday versus the Marlins, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings.

Impact Pfaadt had trouble with Jorge Soler, who accounted for two home runs and five RBI against the Arizona rookie. That's after Pfaadt gave up four homers in his debut versus the Rangers last Wednesday. The top prospect came to the majors with plenty of hype, but a 12.10 ERA through 9.2 innings suggests he may not quite be ready for the show yet. Manager Torey Lovullo said after Tuesday's game that Pfaadt will get another turn in the rotation, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. That outing is likely to come over the weekend at home versus the Giants, but it's safe to say Pfaadt could have a short leash if he doesn't get his homer problem under control.
