Impact Marte homered in the first inning to give the Diamondbacks an early and later had the first of back-to-back infield singles that resulted in a run. Prior to the second of the those infield hits, Marte and Josh Rojas executed a double steal, putting a runner in scoring position for Corbin Carroll to knock in. Impact Castro set a season-high in strikeouts Saturday, sending Ji Hwan Bae, Connor Joe and Jason Delay back to the dugout after walking Rodolfo Castro to open up the ninth inning. After starting out the season firmly behind Andrew Chafin as the Diamondbacks' primary closer, Castro has received back-to-back save opportunities and converted each of them without allowing a single hit or run. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the Diamondbacks' use of Chafin and Castro moving forward, in case one of the two begin to pull away with the closing job.

Pavin Smith - Swats go-ahead home run Smith went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Pirates.

Impact Though Smith was retired by Mitch Keller in each of his first two plate appearances, Smith had the most important swing of the day, taking reliever Robert Stephenson yard for a two-run long shot that plated Lourdes Gurriel and gave the Diamondbacks a one-run advantage. The homer was Smith's first since April 19 (23 games) and just his third of the year. In his last six appearances, Smith has hit just 2-for-21 (.095) with six strikeouts.

Brandon Pfaadt - Limits damage Saturday Pfaadt did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out three.

Impact Pfaadt made it through his fourth big league start relatively unscathed, with all three earned runs coming on one swing of the bat by Ke'Bryan Hayes, who drilled a bases-loaded triple in the third inning. After giving up 13 runs and six homers in his first two appearances (9.2 innings) Pfaadt has bounced back with four earned runs and one homer allowed over his last two starts (10.1 innings). After touting 218 strikeouts in 167 innings of minor league ball in 2022, fantasy managers who took a shot on the highly-ranked prospect have yet to reap any benefits considering Pfaadt's measly 14:8 K/BB and 7.56 ERA through 20 innings of big league work. Though it's unclear if Pfaadt will make another trip around the Arizona rotation, he remains no more than a dart-throw streaming option for those willing to take another chance on the rookie's strikeout upside and prospect pedigree.

Geraldo Perdomo - Slugs homer in loss Perdomo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 13-3 loss to the Pirates.

Impact At the time of the third-inning homer, Perdomo tied the game at one run apiece before Pittsburgh plated 10 runs over the next two frames. It was the fourth homer in 144 plate appearances for Perdomo, who hit five over 500 PAs in 2022. He's one of a few reasons for the Diamondbacks' strong start. Perdomo is hitting .326/.418/.547 and not the easy out he was last year. The Diamondbacks attribute his improvement to offseason work learning stay more grounded in his swing, according to Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. Perdomo and Gabriel Moreno (.313/.341/.391) have shored up the bottom of the order for Arizona.
