Geraldo Perdomo - Opens season as everyday shortstop Perdomo will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Impact Perdomo has picked up six straight starts to begin the season, but his standing atop the depth chart may last only as long as Nick Ahmed's (shoulder) stint on the injured list. With an .083 average, one run and no other counting stats, Perdomo isn't offering much from a fantasy perspective, but he's submitting competitive plate appearances and has drawn five walks against three strikeouts.

Daulton Varsho - On bench Wednesday Varsho isn't starting Wednesday's game against Houston.

Impact Varsho reached base in four of the first five games of the regular season, going 1-for-14 with five walks and five strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Jake McCarthy starts in center field and bats seventh.

Kevin Ginkel - Pitching for Triple-A club Ginkel (elbow) has made two relief appearances for Triple-A Reno this season, covering two scoreless innings and striking out three while giving up one hit and no walks.

Impact Ginkel finished the 2021 campaign on the Diamondbacks' 60-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, but after he was activated and outrighted off the 40-man roster in November, he reported to spring training at full health. The right-hander fell short in his bid for a spot in Arizona's Opening Day bullpen and will look to impress at Triple-A before earning another look with the big club.

Impact Lawlar has come out of the gate firing. He's hit safely in all four contests thus far, including three consecutive multi-hit efforts. The 19-year-old is 9-for-20 with a double, a home run, three RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored. The 2021 sixth overall pick didn't play much last year due to a shoulder injury, but he's flashing an impressive power/speed combo early in 2022.

Joe Mantiply - Gets job done Mantiply allowed one hit over one-third of a inning in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Houston.

Impact The Diamondbacks got effective work from their middle relievers Tuesday. Mantiply was one of four that combined for three scoreless innings before closer Mark Melancon lost the game in the ninth. Mantiply is lumped in with J.B. Wendelken and Noe Ramirez as guys that will work the sixth and seventh innings before Ian Kennedy and Melancon finish games. He's made three scoreless appearances, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout over 2.1 innings.

J.B. Wendelken - Walks pair in short outing Wendelken issued two walks over one-third of an inning in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Astros.

Impact Wendelken came in to start the seventh inning but had trouble finding the plate. Half of his 18 pitches were balls, and he was helped tremendously by catcher Jose Herrera, who gunned a baserunner attempting to steal. He is a fungible piece in the Diamondbacks' reworked bullpen that will used in a variety of situations. The right-hander has made two scoreless appearances thus far, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out one over two innings.

Noé Ramirez - Works out of jam Ramirez threw a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Houston.

Impact Ramirez entered after starter Madison Bumgarner gave up a double and a walk to start the fifth inning. Ramirez was able to get out of the jam on just three pitches. This was Ramirez's third appearance, and he's allowed one one hit and one walk while striking out three over 3.2 innings. He was a bright spot in the Diamondbacks' bullpen over the second half of 2021. The 32-year-old right-hander earned the trust of manager Torey Lovullo and will be used in high-leverage spots.

Luke Weaver - Diagnosed with flexor issue Weaver has a mild flexor pronator strain, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. He will not throw for seven to 10 days.

Impact Arizona manager Torey Lovullo framed the diagnosis as good news. "We feel like we dodged a potential bullet," Lovullo said. The right-hander was slated for a rotation spot but was bumped when he developed a blister late in spring training. In one appearance out of the bullpen, Weaver threw 23 pitches, allowing one run, in two-thirds of an inning. His fastball was down one mph from where it averaged as a starter in 2021.

Sergio Alcántara - Starts at 3B Alcantara started at third base and went 0-for-2 with a fielding error in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Astros.

Impact Drew Ellis had opened the season as the fill-in starter for Josh Rojas (oblique) at third, but the Diamondbacks shipped him back to Triple-A Reno after going 1-for-8 with four strikeouts. Enter Alcantara, who was acquired from the Cubs at about the time Rojas sustained his injury. Impact The 26-year-old was scheduled to start Tuesday against the Astros and had the outing pushed back due to a laceration on his right thumb, but he's set to make his season debut just a few days later. Gallen indicated he still could have pitched Tuesday, but the Diamondbacks opted to play it safe and delay his first start of 2022.

Impact Hernandez didn't make Arizona's Opening Day roster after being acquired from Texas in early April, but he'll get his chance not long later. His stat line in his 43-game debut last season was an odd one, as he stole 11 bases and walked at a 10.2 percent clip but also managed a paltry 0.9 percent barrel rate and a 15.9 percent hard hit rate, leading to a .217/.315/.252 slash line. That speed gives him the potential for fantasy upside, but the complete lack of pop may make it hard for him to earn regular at-bats. He'll take the bench spot that had been occupied by Drew Ellis, who was optioned in a corresponding move.
