Humberto Castellanos - Four scoreless innings in start Castellanos pitched four innings, allowing no runs on one hit and three walks while striking out one in a 5-0 loss Sunday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Castellanos started for the first time this season. He struggled with his command, throwing only 38 of 71 pitches for strikes, but was still able to hold the Mets scoreless. The 24-year-old started seven games last year for Arizona but Caleb Smith was given the fifth starter spot in the rotation to begin this season. He is scheduled to start against the Mets again on Friday in Arizona.

Impact The Diamondbacks had a season-high nine hits Saturday led by by Beer's troika of knocks. Despite being the team's leading hitter (.400 batting average), the lefty-swinging Beer is limited to starts against right-handers. As such, he's not in the lineup Sunday against New York southpaw David Peterson. Beer batted .278 over 97 at-bats against lefties in 2021 while a member of Triple-A Reno.

However, he started in place of Geraldo Perdomo at shortstop Saturday, and he took advantage by blasting a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his first homer of the season and only his second knock across 14 at-bats early on in the campaign.

Mark Melancon - Picks up first save Melancon struck out two and did not allow a baserunner to earn the save Saturday against the Mets.
Impact Melancon was called upon to protect a one-run lead, and he had no trouble doing so to pick up his first save of the season. He retired the Mets in order and generated swinging strikeouts against the final two batters he faced. Though this was his first save, Melancon has made four appearances this season, allowing one earned run across four frames. He appears to be locked into the closer role.

Impact Gallen turned in a solid season debut and stayed out of trouble by not allowing any runners into scoring position. He relied primarily on inducing soft contact, though he also racked up eight swinging strikes across 66 total pitches. The only downside to the effort was the lack of length, but that was to be expected as he dealt with both shoulder and thumb issues prior to his opening outing. Gallen should be able to work a bit deeper in his second turn through the rotation, currently projected to come Thursday at Washington.
