Charlie Morton - Struggles to miss bats Morton (1-0) gave up three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out one in 5.1 innings Monday against St. Louis. He picked up the win.

Impact This was a pretty ugly stat line for Morton's first start of the season, but he still outclassed Jake Woodford on the opposite side and rode his run support to the win. Morton got six whiffs on 41 swings across his 81 total pitches, and while the Cardinals have a stout offense, it's still pretty concerning that the strikeout wasn't a viable weapon. He lines up for a home start Saturday against the Padres.

Impact D'Arnaud is doubling up Sean Murphy in regards to playing time in the early going, making two starts at catcher and two at designated hitter while Murphy has started just twice behind the plate. It's a playing time breakdown not likely to continue, as manager Brian Snitker seemingly is just riding d'Arnaud while he's off to a 6-for-13 start.

Impact The move comes one day after Shuster struggled in his major-league debut, allowing four runs on six hits and five walks over 4.1 innings while notching just one strikeouts. Dylan Dodd has replaced Shuster on the roster and is slated to make a major-league debut of his own Tuesday, with Bryce Elder likely to follow him Wednesday. Shuster can't be recalled for 10 days unless he's replacing an injured player, but worth noting is that Max Fried (hamstring) has not yet been placed on the injured list. Therefore, it's possible he could return for a start later this week if Atlanta holds off on making the Fried move official.

Impact He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to left-hander Dylan Dodd, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of his first big-league start Tuesday in St. Louis. Luplow was optioned to Gwinnett late in spring training after falling short in his quest to win a spot on the Opening Day roster as a short-side platoon option in the outfield.

Dylan Dodd - Contract officially selected Atlanta selected Dodd's contract Monday, calling him up from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Impact Dodd has been expected to start Tuesday's matchup versus the Cardinals for a while a now and he is now officially on track to toe the rubber. The 24-year-old started 10 games combined last season with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett, surrendering 18 earned runs while striking out 62 batters over 53 innings.

Bryce Elder - Likely joining big-league rotation Elder is the most likely candidate to get called up when Max Fried (hamstring) is placed on the injured list, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Impact Ian Anderson was the other option, but he got hammered for three home runs in two-thirds of an inning Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett. Elder didn't have a great beginning to his season either, allowing four runs over six innings for Gwinnett on Friday, but he'll be on schedule to step into Atlanta's rotation Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Ian Anderson - Brutal start to Triple-A season Anderson lasted only two-thirds of an inning for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits and two walks while one strikeout.

Impact While his defense did him no favors, three of the nine hitters who faced Anderson also launched home runs off the right-hander. After a tough 2022 and a shaky spring, this was not the way the 24-year-old wanted to kick off the new campaign, but it seems as though he's a long way from being ready for a promotion. Expect Bryce Elder to get the nod to join Atlanta's rotation when Max Fried (hamstring) is placed on the IL.
