Sonny Gray - Plans to return FridayGray (groin) plans to start Friday's game against the Cubs, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactGray has been on the injured list since June 9 due to a right groin strain, but he made a rehab start for Triple-A Louisville on Saturday and allowed one hit and three walks while striking out four in three scoreless innings. He's slated to return to the majors to pitch on five day's rest in Friday's series opener against the Cubs, but it's not yet clear whether he could be on a pitch count following his brief rehab assignment.

Tyler Naquin - Scratched from lineupNaquin was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies due to right wrist soreness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactNaquin took a seat against left-handers in two of the last three games, and he'll remain out of the lineup Monday following his late scratch. It's not yet clear whether the 30-year-old could be available off the bench, but Shogo Akiyama will take his place in center field and bat fifth.

Jeff Hoffman - Third rehab start awaitsReds manager David Bell said Monday that Hoffman (shoulder) will make a third rehab start for Triple-A Louisville later this week, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer repo...
ImpactHoffman's second rehab outing came Sunday, when he struck out six over four scoreless frames. He was capped at 49 pitches in that outing, so the Reds may want to see him increase his count to the 60-to-75 range before activating him from the 10-day injured list prior to the All-Star break. The Reds have yet to determine Hoffman's role upon returning from the IL, but he would have to settle for bullpen duties if the club opts to keep Vladimir Gutierrez in the rotation.

Kyle Farmer - On bench MondayFarmer will sit Monday against the Phillies.
ImpactFarmer hits the bench after starting 19 straight games at shortstop. He hit a modest .231/.311/.323 over that stretch, though that actually increased his OPS on the year to .598. Mike Freeman takes over for him Monday.

Mike Freeman - Gets rare startFreeman will start at shortstop and bat eighth Monday against the Phillies.
ImpactFreeman will enter the lineup for the first time since June 16 and will pick up just his second start in the Reds' last 20 games. The 33-year-old utility man is unlikely to pick up regular starts at any point this season unless the Reds are missing multiple everyday infielders due to injury.

Tyler Stephenson - Heads to benchStephenson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
ImpactThe Reds included Stephenson in the lineup in four of the past six games, but all but one of those starts came when the opposition brought lefty pitchers to the hill. Stephenson looks like he'll be stuck in a short-side platoon role while both Tucker Barnhart and Joey Votto are healthy.
