Impact Brieske pitched OK, though he needed 90 pitches to get through four innings, so he wasn't able to go very deep in the contest. He was also outdueled by Sonny Gray, who tossed seven shutout innings, and the Tigers fell 2-0 with just five hits as a team. Brieske at least bounced back after allowing two long balls and six runs in his last start, but his first MLB win remains elusive. The rookie will carry a 5.04 ERA into his next scheduled start Sunday against the Guardians.

He reached the five-inning mark again in his fifth start, but the righty was hit around a bit for the first time in his young MLB career. Home runs continued to be a bit of an issue for Brieske, as he allowed multiple long balls for the third time already in his rookie campaign. The 24-year-old may have more tough outings ahead if he can't keep the ball in the park. Brieske will carry a 5.13 ERA into his next scheduled start Sunday against the Guardians.

Impact Brieske pitched reasonably well for the fourth straight time to begin his rookie campaign, though he has two losses and two no-decisions to show for it. The righty went exactly five innings in each of his previous three starts, so this was a new high-water mark for innings. Brieske has also allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his four outings, which has propelled him to a solid 3.86 ERA for the season. The 24-year-old will look to keep it up and maybe earn his first MLB win in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Rays.

Handed loss in Houston Brieske (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Astros.

Impact All three runs against Brieske came in the second inning when he coughed up back-to-back homers to Chas McCormick and Martin Maldonado. He's now tossed exactly five innings in each of his first three career MLB starts. The 24-year-old rookie saw his ERA climb to 4.20 with a 9:7 K:BB. Brieske is currently in line to face the Athletics at home next week.

Impact It wasn't the most dominant effort -- Brieske only had three swinging strikes on 90 pitches -- but five innings of one-run ball against this team (in Los Angeles no less) is impressive for a 24-year-old rookie. The right-hander now has a 3.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in his first 10 innings. Brieske has allowed a homer both times out so far and has served up three homers total, and he will need to get the long ball in check in a hurry to enjoy similar results moving forward.
