Placed on injured list Biggio was placed on the 10-day injured list with a cervical spine ligament sprain Saturday.

Impact Biggio was held out of Friday's lineup with what was originally referred to as a sore neck. He wound up appearing off the bench, but the injury is evidently bad enough that he'll need to be shut down for at least 10 days. Whether or not he'll be able to return when first eligible at the start of June remains to be seen. Santiago Espinal will start at third base Saturday and could feature regularly until he returns.

Could require IL stint Biggio, who is not in Friday's lineup against the Rays, is dealing with a sore neck and could require a stint on the injured list, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Impact When manager Charlie Montoyo was asked if Biggio would go on the IL, he said, "We'll see how it goes. Right now he's day-to-day." Apparently Biggio has been dealing with the neck soreness all season and is having trouble swinging the bat. He is hitting .206 with three home runs and two steals.

Dealing with neck soreness Biggio (neck) was moved to DH for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Impact The neck soreness is making it difficult for Biggio to throw, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. The issue appears to be minor, but it's yet to be seen whether the infielder's hitting will suffer as well from the neck soreness.

Impact Biggio had two hits and a stolen base Saturday, his second multi-hit game in his last three, but he still sits with an underwhelming .214/.336/.339 slash line for the season.
