Heath Hembree - Nails down third saveHembree gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his third save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cubs.
ImpactThe right-hander appears to be the top closing option for the Reds at the moment, picking up saves in back-to-back games. Amir Garrett, who pitched the last two days and was likely unavailable, remains in the mix however, and Lucas Sims (elbow) and Tejay Antone (forearm) could be back later this month as well. On the season, Hembree has a 5.06 ERA thanks to eight homers allowed in 26.2 innings, but his 45:10 K:BB highlights how dominant he can be when everything is clicking.

Tyler Mahle - Fans seven in no-decisionMahle didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Cubs, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
ImpactThe right-hander was far from efficient, tossing 59 of 102 pitches for strikes, and he exited the game with the score tied 2-2. Mahle remains a strong source of strikeouts, fanning at least six batters in seven straight starts, and he'll take a 3.63 ERA and 112:31 K:BB through 89.1 innings into his next outing.

Kris Bryant - Launches 16th homerBryant went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.
ImpactThe 29-year-old took Tyler Mahle deep in the third inning for his 16th homer of the year, giving the Cubs a 2-0 lead, but it was the last gasp for the Chicago offense. Bryant has five hits in two games to begin July as he tries to put a rough June (.114/.205/.241 in 23 games) behind him.

Adbert Alzolay - Stuck with loss in quality startAlzolay (4-8) took the loss Saturday as the Cubs fell 3-2 to the Reds, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out six.
ImpactThe young right-hander put together one of his best outings of the season, completing seven innings for only the second time while delivering his fourth quality start, but a lack of run support led him to his fourth straight loss. Alzolay will carry a 4.48 ERA and 76:21 K:BB through 72.1 innings into his next trip to the mound.

Tony Cingrani - Signs minor-league contractCingrani signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Saturday.
ImpactCingrani began the 2021 campaign with the Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League, but he'll report to Triple-A Iowa after he landed a minor-league deal. The southpaw made seven appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2019 and recorded a 2.84 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 6.1 innings. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2018 but could join the Cubs' bullpen at some point in 2021.
