Elvis Andrus - Strikes deal with ChiSox Andrus and the White Sox agreed to a contract Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact The White Sox are expected to officially announce Andrus' signing Friday, when the 33-year-old is set to join the team in Cleveland for its series opener with the Guardians. Before he was released by the Athletics on Wednesday, Andrus had been a regular starter in the infield, slashing .237/.301/.373 with eight home runs, seven stolen bases, 41 RBI and 30 runs in 386 plate appearances. Though he didn't fit in with Oakland's rebuilding plans, Andrus should be an ideal short-term fit for the White Sox, who are expected to be without top shortstop Tim Anderson (hand) until at least mid-to-late September. The White Sox will likely plug in Andrus as their new primary option at the position, leaving rookies Lenyn Sosa and Romy Gonzalez on the outside looking in for playing time.

Impact Even with Leury Garcia (back) joining Tim Anderson (hand) on the injured list Wednesday, Sosa won't necessarily be handed the keys to the everyday shortstop role. In fact, Sosa will find himself on the bench Thursday for the second day in a row, as fellow rookie Romy Gonzalez draws another start at shortstop after going 1-for-4 with a double in his 2022 MLB debut. Since joining the White Sox on Aug. 7, Sosa has gone 3-for-22 (.136 average) with a solo home run in six games.

Impact Robert's continued absence from the starting nine for the series finale was fully expected after he received an injection Wednesday to reduce the inflammation in his sprained left wrist. Assuming Robert's wrist responds to the shot as anticipated, he could resume swinging a bat within the next 24 hours and put an end to his six-game absence Friday in Cleveland. For what it's worth, manager Tony La Russa expressed confidence Wednesday that Robert won't require a trip to the injured list. That notion was seemingly supported by Robert appearing as a pinch runner in Wednesday's 3-2 loss, meaning the White Sox won't be able to backdate a potential IL stint.
