Jesse Scholtens - Secures first saveScholtens picked up the save in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Mariners, striking out one over a perfect inning.
ImpactScholtens was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday and tossed a scoreless inning in his first appearance since May 31. He was called upon again Saturday, but this time in an extra-innings save opportunity, as Joe Kelly and Kendall Graveman were likely unavailable after recently pitching back-to-back days. Scholtens didn't disappoint and secured his first career save with a perfect inning, but he isn't expected to be used in high-leverage situations on a regular basis.

Lucas Giolito - Five strikeouts in no-decisionGiolito did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks over five innings against the Mariners. He struck out five.
ImpactGiolito completed five innings for a fourth straight outing and has given up seven runs across 23 innings during that stretch. Aside from a horrendous performance versus the Pirates in April, the veteran right-hander has been strong this season, posting a 2.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 81:25 K:BB over his other 13 appearances. Giolito will look to stay sharp next time out, which is tentatively scheduled as part of a three-game weekend set versus Boston.

Paul Sewald - Blows save SaturdaySewald blew the save in Saturday's 4-3 loss against the White Sox, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning.
ImpactSewald couldn't secure Seattle's one-run lead and blew his second save of the season. The right-hander owned a 2.54 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 40:9 K:BB through 28.1 innings and had converted 13 of 14 saves coming into Saturday, so it's safe to chalk the poor outing up as an outlier. However, Andres Munoz, who tossed a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts during the loss, may get a few more save opportunities moving forward if Sewald continues to falter.

Logan Gilbert - Strikes out three in no-decisionGilbert did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.
ImpactDespite walking a season-high three batters, it was still a nice bounce-back effort for Gilbert, who surrendered six earned runs to the Angels last time out. The right-hander started the campaign strong, posting a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69:10 K:BB through his first 10 appearances (60 innings), but he's given up 14 earned runs across his past four starts (19.1 innings) while recording a modest 15:6 K:BB. Gilbert's next start is lined up for a matchup in Baltimore.
