Salt River Fields at Talking Stick
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Scottsdale, AZ
To serve as spot starterDe Leon is expected to make a start or two at the beginning of the season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactDe Leon probably won't last long in the rotation, as he'll likely head to the bullpen as soon as Sonny Gray (back), Michael Lorenzen (shoulder) or Tejay Antone (hip) is ready to go. He could a worthy streaming option to start the season as he'll line up to face the Pirates in his first start, but it's hard to have too much confidence in a player who owns an 8.49 ERA in 29.2 major-league innings.

Will open in rotationHoffman is expected to open the season as the Reds' fourth starter, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactHoffman probably won't make many turns in the rotation, as it took injuries to Sonny Gray (back), Michael Lorenzen (shoulder) and Tejay Antone (hip) for him to earn a starting role. He's an interesting streaming candidate in the first week of the season, as he'll face the Pirates in his first start, but he's tough to roster in most leagues. His 6.40 ERA in 230.2 career major-league innings is quite poor even when accounting for the fact that he called Coors Field home.

Won't be ready to startLorenzen (shoulder) is not expected to be ready to start any of the Reds' first five games, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactLorenzen looked likely to open the season as a starter but has been dealing with a strained right shoulder for the past week. It's not yet clear whether or not he'll need a trip to the injured list, but he won't have time to build up as a starter by Opening Day. With Tejan Antone (hip) and Sonny Gray (back) also dealing with injuries, Jeff Hoffman and Jose De Leon are both expected to begin the season in the rotation.

Reassigned to minor-league campDelmonico was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday.
ImpactDelmonico missed time early in camp due to knee soreness but still appeared in 18 Cactus League games. During that time, he slashed .269/.333/.423 with seven RBI and two runs. The 28-year-old should begin the season at Triple-A Louisville.

Reassigned to minorsOsich was reassigned to minor-league camp Saturday.
ImpactOsich displayed improved velocity during spring training and posted a 5.63 ERA and 14:5 K:BB in eight innings across eight Cactus League appearances. However, the southpaw won't break camp with the team and should head to Triple-A Louisville to begin the 2021 season.

Dealing with mild groin strainSenzel is dealing with a mild groin strain but is expected to be ready for Opening Day, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ImpactIt's not clear when Senzel sustained the injury, but he isn't in Saturday's spring lineup against the Cubs. However, general manager Nick Krall didn't sound too concerned about the issue and said that he doesn't expect Senzel to miss time to begin the regular season. Senzel will serve as the starting center fielder for the Reds if he's healthy in time for Opening Day.

Confirmed as everyday shortstopSuarez was confirmed as the Reds' everyday shortstop by Reds general manager Nick Krall on Saturday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactThe Reds' shortstop options entering camp made for a very uninspiring group, so they decided to get creative. Suarez has made just two starts at shortstop in the past five seasons, but he did begin his career at the position and evidently did enough this spring to prove he can handle the role. He should be able to pick up shortstop eligibility in most formats very early in the season, giving a bit of added flexibility to fantasy teams.
