The Marlins recalled Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville to provide another option at catcher, but Pereda is a 28-year-old rookie who has just five MLB plate appearances to his name. ImpactPereda will move up to the big leagues for the third time this season and will likely serve as the understudy to Ali Sanchez, who is expected to take over as the Marlins' No. 1 catcher after Nick Fortes (quadricep) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. During his previous stints with the Marlins, Sanchez appeared in just five games and went hitless in five at-bats. He's been productive in a part-time role at Jacksonville this season, slashing .310/.418/.458 over 184 plate appearances.
