Jake Reed - Lands with MetsThe Mets claimed Reed off waivers from the Rays on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

ImpactReed will be moving on to his fourth organization of the season after stints with the Angels and Dodgers before the Rays scooped him off waivers July 25. The 28-year-old right-hander didn't appear at the big-league level for Tampa Bay, and he'll begin his tenure with the Mets in the minors as well. Over 22.1 innings between three different Triple-A affiliates this season, Reed has posted a 5.24 ERA while striking out 28 in 22.1 innings.

Nick Castellanos - Takes hacks in BPCastellanos (wrist) took part in the Reds' batting practice session prior to Sunday's 7-1 win over the Mets, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

ImpactCastellanos looks to be progressing well from the microfracture in his right wrist, as he's been taking part in baseball activities for nearly a week after the injury first landed him on the shelf July 23. A target date for his return isn't yet known, but since the Reds are only four games off the pace for the National League's second wild-card spot, the team could be inclined to activate Castellanos without sending him out on a rehab assignment beforehand. In the meantime, Cincinnati will rely on a combination of Aristides Aquino and Shogo Akiyama to replace Castellanos in the outfield.
