Vince Velasquez - Preparing for rehab assignmentVelasquez (finger) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Clearwater on Tuesday, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ImpactVelasquez, who has been on the injured list since Aug. 2 due to a blister on his right middle finger, was cleared to head out on the rehab assignment after he threw a live bullpen session Sunday without discomfort. Even though the back end of the rotation remains unsettled while Zach Eflin (kneecap) remains on the IL, the Phillies aren't expect to revisit using Velasquez in a starting role upon his return.

Jesse Winker - No long-term concernsWinker's MRI confirmed Monday that his intercostal strain isn't a long-term issue, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactWinker hit the injured list Monday after aggravating an issue which had been plaguing him for the past several days during Sunday's game against the Phillies. He'll be out for at least 10 days, but the Reds appear optimistic that he won't be out longer than that.

Jesse Winker - Lands on injured listWinker was placed on the 10-day injured list with an intercostal strain Monday.
ImpactWinker missed Friday and Saturday's games with the issue and promptly aggravated it upon his return to the lineup Sunday. He'll now be out for at least 10 days and potentially more, with the Reds yet to provide an estimated timeline for his return. Aristides Aquino and Shogo Akiyama could see more at-bats open up in the outfield in his absence, with shortstop Jose Barrero getting recalled to take his place on the roster.

Jose Barrero - Gets first MLB call-up of 2021The Reds recalled Barrero from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
ImpactThe 23-year-old infielder will be joining the big club for the first time in 2021 after getting a 24-game trial with Cincinnati during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. With the benefit of playing on an everyday basis in the minors this season, Barrero has improved his plate approach and has tapped into more power, slugging 17 home runs between Louisville and Double-A Chattanooga in 2021 after having left the yard only 14 times in his first three professional seasons. Though Cincinnati views Barrero as a potential long-term solution in the middle infield, he may be relegated to a depth role during his upcoming stint in majors. Second baseman Jonathan India (.860 OPS) has been a National League Rookie of the Year frontrunner, while shortstop Kyle Farmer has overcome a sluggish start to the season to churn out a .971 OPS since the All-Star break.
