JT Brubaker - Late-season return not ruled outPirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Brubaker (shoulder) began a plyometric training program Wednesday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. He'll be rea...
ImpactEven though Brubaker hasn't resumed throwing since being shut down a week ago, the Pirates aren't yet closing the door on the right-hander making it back from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season. However, with just two and a half weeks to go, Brubaker doesn't appear to have enough time to build back up for starting duty, even if he avoids any further setbacks in his recovery.

Michael Chavis - Rehab assignment on tapPirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Chavis (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis in the coming days, Alex Stumpf of DKPitt...
ImpactPittsburgh plans to have Chavis serve as a designated hitter in his initial rehab games at Indianapolis before clearing him for work in the infield. With that in mind, Chavis' rehab assignment will likely extend through the weekend and potentially into the early portion of next week, but in the absence of any setbacks with his strained right elbow, he should make it back from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season.

David Bednar - Cleared to play catchBednar (oblique) resumed playing catch Wednesday and is feeling pain free, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ImpactBednar's ability to start throwing again just one day after being placed on the injured list suggests his right oblique strain is a relatively minor one. That said, he'll still need to progress to throwing off a mound and facing hitters in live batting practice or simulated games, so Bednar is far from a safe bet to make it back from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season. In the meantime, Chris Stratton represents the top candidate to pick up saves for the Pirates.

Wilmer Difo - Returns to bench vs. rightyDifo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
ImpactDifo went 2-for-8 with a run scored while manning second base in both of the past two games, but those two starts came against left-handed pitchers. The lefty-hitting Hoy Park will get the nod at the keystone with a righty (Vladimir Gutierrez) on the mound for Cincinnati, so the switch-hitting Difo doesn't look to be much more than short-side platoon player for the Pirates.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2021ROTOWIRE
Cole Tucker - Remains on benchTucker isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Reds.
ImpactTucker will be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game after he hit .147 with a double, three runs, a stolen base and three walks across his last 10 appearances. Hoy Park will start at the keystone and bat eighth.
SEPTEMBER 15, 2021ROTOWIRE
Delino DeShields - Sits after two straight startsDeShields is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
ImpactThough top center fielder Tyler Naquin (ribs) remains on the bench for the third game in a row, DeShields will drop out of the lineup and give way to Shogo Akiyama. Based on his usage since being added to the active roster Sept. 1, DeShields looks to be the Reds' fourth outfielder ahead of Aristides Aquino and Akiyama, but the 29-year-old hasn't done much with his opportunities thus far. In 10 games with Cincinnati, DeShields has gone 4-for-19 (.211 average) with two doubles, three RBI, zero runs and zero steals.
