Jake Cronenworth - Reaches base three timesCronenworth went 0-for-1 with three walks and a run scored Wednesday against the Reds.
ImpactCronenworth managed to reach base multiple times for the first time in six starts, and he's now hitless across his last 19 at-bats. Given that, it's little surprise that he's hitting just .174, though he has managed to maintain a .339 on-base percentage. Importantly, Cronenworth has struck out at only an 18.6 percent clip and currently has just a .222 BABIP across 59 plate appearances. If he continues to make contact, Cronenworth should see improved results as the season wears on.

Ha-Seong Kim - Smacks first homerKim went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Reds.
ImpactKim took Buck Farmer yard in the seventh inning to collect his first homer of the season. He's primarily split playing time with CJ Abrams at shortstop to begin the season, though Kim was in the lineup Wednesday due to Luke Voit getting a day off. Kim's overall line remains unremarkable, but he has racked up eight runs scored across only 32 plate appearances on the campaign.

Jurickson Profar - Power barrage continuesProfar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two runs scored and a stolen base Wednesday against the Reds.
ImpactProfar provided an offensive spark for the Padres, first going yard in the fourth inning. He then reached base on a fielder's choice in the eighth frame, but he proceeded to swipe second base and come around to score. Profar hit only four home runs across 412 plate appearances in 2021, but he has already matched that mark in 49 plate appearances this season. That pace will almost certainly not continue, but a return to double-digit home runs for Profar for the first time since 2019 is certainly within reach.

MacKenzie Gore - First big-league winGore (1-0) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Reds.
ImpactGore ran into some trouble in the outing, particularly in the fourth inning when he avoided an earned run only after Joey Votto was thrown out at home. However, Gore also showed long stints of dominance, highlighted by a stretch from the second to third frames when he retired six straight hitters -- four of which came from strikeouts. The end result was his first career win. The former top prospect has now delivered a 1.74 ERA with 10:4 K:BB across his first 10.1 innings in the majors. Despite the strong showing, Gore could lose out on a rotation spot if Blake Snell (groin) is able to return from the injured list after a minimum stay.

Vladimir Gutierrez - Walks four in lossGutierrez (0-3) allowed three earned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out two across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Padres.
ImpactGutierrez worked three scoreless innings to begin the start, but surrendered a two-run home run in the fourth inning. That accounted for the majority of the damage against him, though he also allowed a third run in the fifth frame on an RBI double by Trent Grisham. Gutierrez was particularly wild Wednesday, as he hit two batters in addition to the four free passes he surrendered. Through 13 innings this season, Gutierrez has a 5.54 ERA, and his 9:9 K:BB is among the indicators that his lack of success has been deserved.
