Alex Cobb - Activated ahead of start Cobb (hip/shoulder/finger) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start in the second game of Friday's doubleheader versus Minnesota.
Impact Cobb has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a left hip procedure he underwent in the offseason as well as various other injuries he suffered during rehab. He's now set to make his season debut for the Guardians after being traded from San Francisco ahead of the trade deadline. The 36-year-old righty posted a 3.52 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out 29 batters across 23 innings during his rehab assignment, and he was able to throw 69 pitches (4.2 innings) during his most recent minor-league outing. Anthony Gose was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Joey Cantillo - Falls to Twins Cantillo (0-2) took the loss in the opening game of Friday's doubleheader with the Twins, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Cantillo allowed a run in the first inning before Minnesota added a pair of solo homers in the second and fourth. The 24-year-old Cantillo has allowed three runs in each of his three starts in the majors this year, posting a 6.23 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP and nine strikeouts over 13 innings. The left-hander figures to return to Triple-A following Friday's outing, where he has a 2.79 ERA in seven starts.

Sam Hentges - Pulled off rehab assignment Hentges has been pulled off his rehab assignment due to renewed soreness in his left shoulder, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Impact Hentges had made four rehab appearances and in his last one he allowed three runs without recording an out. The left-hander will be re-examined by doctors to determine next steps, but it sounds as if the Guardians are expecting to be without the reliever for quite a while longer. Hentges has been on the 15-day injured list since mid-July.

James Karinchak - Uncertain to pitch in 2024 Karinchak (shoulder) has been working out at Cleveland's spring training facility in Arizona, but the Guardians are uncertain if he'll be able to pitch for the big club at any poin...
Impact With a 3.10 ERA and 22.2 K-BB% over 174 career relief appearances over parts of five seasons in the majors, Karinchak has often been a dominant bullpen arm for the Guardians when available, but shoulder problems cost him a large chunk of the 2022 campaign and cropped up again in spring training. Though the Guardians have classified his injury as fatigue rather than something more severe, Karinchak has made minimal progress since being cleared to resume a throwing program March 11. According to the report, the quality and shape of Karinchak's pitches haven't looked like they have in the past, and the Guardians have thus far been unwilling to send him out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Karinchak will continue to work with the Cleveland staff in Arizona with the hope of regaining form.

Impact It had been the expectation as long as Bibee got through a bullpen session Thursday with no issues, and it appears that's the case. The right-hander will be pitching on 12 days' rest after having his last turn skipped due to shoulder tightness.

Matthew Boyd - Dazzles in latest rehab start Boyd (elbow) struck out seven and while giving up one hit and no walks over six scoreless innings in his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Columbus.
Impact Boyd was locked in from the first pitch in the fifth start of his rehab assignment and his second in a row with Columbus. He retired the first 17 hitters he faced and built up to 63 pitches before he exited the contest. The southpaw has looked dominant in all five of his rehab outings across stops with Columbus, Double-A Akron and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, posting an 0.83 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB in 21.2 innings. The Guardians have yet to announce the next step for Boyd, but he'll presumably be activated from the 15-day injured list and enter the big-league rotation for his next outing. Cleveland will have an opening in its rotation for next week's three-game home series versus the Cubs after Carlos Carrasco (hip) was placed on the 15-day IL on Friday.
