Edward Cabrera was called up from Triple- A Jacksonville last week to replace Poteet as the Marlins' fifth starter and will get his second turn through the rotation after shutting out the Rockies over six innings in his 2022 MLB debut. Cabrera should have a decent amount of leash in a starting role while neither Poteet nor Luzardo are close to returning.

Impact Poteet entered the rotation May 21 as a replacement for the injured Jesus Luzardo (forearm), but he made just two starts before succumbing to an injury of his own. Miami has yet to name a replacement in the rotation for Poteet, but Edward Cabrera would be available on four days' rest to come up from Triple-A Jacksonville and slot in as the Marlins' new No. 5 starter.

Impact Poteet was working on three days' rest after tossing two innings in relief during Saturday's matchup against Atlanta. The right-hander impressed during his first start in place of Jesus Luzardo (forearm), tossing 4.2 scoreless while striking out four. However, Poeteet struggled out of the gate Wednesday, allowing five runs in the first inning. Despite the poor outing, the 27-year-old still sports a 2.42 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP across 26.0 innings.

Draws start Wednesday Manager Don Mattingly said Poteet will start Wednesday's game against the Rays in Tampa, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Poteet will be making his second turn in the rotation as a replacement for Jesus Luzardo (forearm), who has yet to resume throwing since landing on the 15-day injured list May 15. In his first start May 17, Poteet took a no-decision while striking out four Nationals over 4.2 scoreless frames. He then made a two-inning appearance out of the bullpen Saturday against Atlanta, so he'll be returning to the mound Wednesday on three days' rest rather than the standard four. With that in mind, Mattingly is unlikely to have Poteet pitch more than twice through the order before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Impact Making his first start of the season after eight relief appearances, Poteet could only give the Marlins 54 pitches (37 strikes) but still came within one out of picking up his first win of the season. The performance almost certainly earned the 27-year-old another turn or two in the rotation while Jesus Luzardo (forearm) is sidelined, but with Edward Cabrera and Max Meyer looming at Triple-A, Poteet likely isn't a long-term option as a starter.
