Austin Gomber - Rough first inning leads to loss Gomber (3-8) was saddled with the loss Thursday, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk over three innings. He struck out one.
Impact Gomber allowed five extra-base hits in the first inning, with a two-run blast by Pete Alonso representing the biggest blow of the four-run inning. A second dinger by Alonso to lead off the third was the final blow against Gomber, who was removed following the third frame. Thursday's outing marked the first time in 10 home starts this season that Gomber has allowed as many as five earned runs. While his next start is slated to take place away from Coors Field, Gomber's task won't be any easier as he's slated to face the red-hot Diamondbacks next week in Phoenix.

Impact Feltner was pulled from his start Wednesday after just one inning due to shoulder and lat issues, and manager Bud Black said immediately after the game that it was likely the 27-year-old would need to spend time on the IL. With Feltner sidelined until at least Aug. 23 and German Marquez (elbow) set to miss the rest of the season, the Rockies will need to promote someone from Triple-A to fill the fifth spot in their rotation. For now, they'll recall Riley Pint to provide additional bullpen depth.

Germán Márquez - Will not return this season Rockies manager Bud Black said Thursday that Marquez will not return this season after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.
Impact Marquez made his way back from Tommy John surgery but lasted just one start before going back on the injured list last month with more elbow issues. The good news is there's nothing wrong with his UCL this time around, and the expectation is that he'll be ready to resume throwing in 6-to-8 weeks and have a normal offseason. Marquez is set to earn $10 million in 2025 in his final year under contract.
