Five innings in no-decision Keuchel allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision against Cleveland on Monday.

Impact Outside of a two-run homer allowed to Eddie Rosario, Keuchel was fine. Most importantly, he was efficient on short notice after Carlos Rodon was scratched due to an upset stomach; Keuchel completed five innings on only 68 pitches. After the game, manager Tony La Russa told Scott Merkin of MLB.com that Keuchel had thrown a bullpen session Sunday, and while it was said to be "not an extensive one," it explains why Keuchel's pitch count was limited even though he was technically on normal rest. Expect Keuchel to be available for a heavier workload this weekend in Boston.

Impact It's unclear how deep Keuchel will be able to pitch in Monday's contest, as he wasn't scheduled to pitch for a couple more days and may have had his rhythm thrown off by the late switch. He won't be pitching on short rest, however, as his previous outing came Wednesday against the Mariners.

Impact Keuchel was a little better than in his first start of the campaign, when he allowed six runs (three earned) over four-plus frames, but he still didn't broach the craftiness of last season that led him to post a career-best 1.99 ERA. The southpaw exited with a chance for a win, however, before reliever Matt Foster let things get away by allowing six baserunners while recording only two outs. Keuchel next's opportunity to nab his first win of the campaign will come Tuesday at home versus Cleveland.

Impact Keuchel made quick work of the crosstown rivals, dispatching the Cubs in just 41 pitches. He had been scheduled to throw 65, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. This was his second outing and much different from his Cactus League debut when he had an inning rolled and allowed five runs in 2.1 innings against Kansas City. "Endurance-wise I felt a lot better today. I didn't really taper off like I did five days ago, so that's a check off at the bottom," Keuchel said. The left-hander is scheduled for one more spring start before pitching the second game of the regular season.
