Eduardo Rodriguez - Earns ninth win in strong outing Rodriguez (9-6) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Guardians. He struck out six.
Impact Rodriguez bounced back from allowing six runs in his previous start to dominate the Guardians. The only blemish came in the fourth when Ramon Laureano singled with two outs to drive in the lone Guardians' run. Rodriguez nearly made it through the seventh but was pulled with two outs in the inning following an infield single by Tyler Freeman. Rodriguez now holds a strong 3.03 ERA on the season with a 1.08 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 113 innings. His next start is currently scheduled for Saturday in a home matchup with the Astros.

It's been a disappointing season for the shortstop, who's sitting with just a .592 OPS. Baez may also finish with his fewest home runs in a full season since he hit one as a 22-year-old back in 2015. Since then, he's had at least 14 home runs every year except for the condensed 2020 campaign, when he recorded eight long balls in 59 games.

Impact Carpenter got things started with a three-run home run in the first inning, his 17th of the season. The outfielder has been on a power surge lately, with five of those long balls coming over his last eight games. Carpenter has earned a regular role in the middle of Detroit's lineup with his strong performance so far this year, as he's now batting .281 with an .862 OPS.

Matt Manning - Looks sharp in win Manning (5-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Guardians. He had one walk and two strikeouts.
Impact Outside of a first inning solo home run by Kole Calhoun, Manning didn't allow any more earned runs as he cruised to the win. The righty has been sharp over his last two outings, allowing just the one earned run across 11.1 innings, though only with three strikeouts. For the season, Manning has just 42 strikeouts in 64.2 innings, which limits his upside. Either way, he'll look to continue his strong recent form in his next start, which is tentatively set for Friday against the Astros.

Jason Foley - Records another save Saturday Foley pitched a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to record the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Guardians.
Impact Foley now has seven saves this season, with three of them coming in his last four appearances as he's taken over as Detroit's primary closer, displacing Alex Lange. Foley has a strong 2.63 ERA overall, though his ERA in August sits at 4.32, in part due to allowing three earned runs in an outing on Wednesday. As long as the righty displays better command than Lange and avoids blowups, he should stick as the team's top option for saves.
