Shogo Akiyama - Slips down depth chartAkiyama remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
ImpactAkiyama appears to have fallen behind all of Tyler Naquin, Nick Castellanos, Max Schrock, Delino DeShields and Aristides Aquino in the pecking order in the Cincinnati outfield. Since Akiyama made his last start Aug. 24, all of the aforementioned five players have made no fewer than four outfield starts.

Joe Jiménez - Tests positive for COVID-19The Tigers announced Monday that Jimenez tested positive for COVID-19, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ImpactAlong with Jimenez, bench coach George Lombard tested positive for the virus, despite both having been vaccinated. It's unclear if the Tigers have a player readily available to take Jimenez's spot on the 28-man active roster for Monday's game in Pittsburgh, so the team could wait until Tuesday before placing Jimenez on the COVID-19 injured list. Jimenez will need to complete a quarantine period of at least 10 days and test negative for the virus before he's eligible to rejoin the Tigers.

Luis Castillo - Takes loss despite quality startCastillo (7-15) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Tigers after allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while fanning seven across six innings.
ImpactCastillo tossed his fifth straight quality start but has been unable to deliver many wins in that span, going 1-4 with a 2.81 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP across 32 innings through that stretch. Castillo endured a slow start to the season but has picked things up of late and has allowed more than three earned runs just once since the beginning of June.

José Ureña - Earns win in reliefUrena (3-8) earned the win Sunday against Cincinnati after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out one.
ImpactUrena registered his third win of the season and while he piggybacked Casey Mize's start effectively, this wasn't a quiet outing as the boxscore suggested -- he routinely allowed baserunners and was far from dominant. Either way, this was a step in the right direction for Urena, who has been pitching poorly during most of the year. He has tossed three scoreless outings over his last four appearances, but he still owns a below-average 5.95 ERA across 87.2 innings through 20 appearances (18 starts).

Victor Reyes - Back on benchReyes is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
ImpactReyes had picked up starts in right field in three of the Tigers' last four games, going 5-for-14 with a pair of extra-base hits, an RBI and a run over that stretch. He should stick in the lineup regularly versus left-handed pitching, but Reyes likely won't have a path to a full-time role when all of Akil Baddoo, Derek Hill and Robbie Grossman are available in the outfield.
