Impact The right-hander entered the game in a difficult spot with one out and the bases loaded after a terrible appearance from Paul Fry. Tate then gave up a sacrifice fly, a walk and a grand slam to Brett Phillips, although only two runs were charged to Tate. The 27-year-old is expected to see more high-leverage outings over the last two months of the season, but he's now given up six runs over his last 1.2 innings across three appearances. His ERA is up to 4.82 with a 1.31 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB with two saves and five holds in 46.2 innings overall.

Impact Tate has plenty of experience as a starter in the minors but has pitched out of the bullpen in each of his 55 major-league appearances thus far. Don't expect him to pitch particularly deep in Thursday's game, as he's topped out at 2.2 innings this season and just threw two frames on Tuesday. Keegan Akin had been scheduled to start, but the Orioles have yet to announce if he'll be the primary pitcher after Tate or if they'll simply be going with a bullpen day.

The biggest flaw in the right-hander's pitching so far is a 3.5 BB/9, but he's been able to more effectively limit run-scoring opportunities lately. With a 3.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 26 innings overall, Tate could be in line to see more high-leverage work, although such opportunities aren't going to be common given Baltimore's struggles as a team this year.
