Tucker homers, Valdez goes 8 in Astros' 9-1 romp over Mets

Poised for two-start week Valdez is listed as the Astros' starting pitcher for Tuesday's series opener in New York against the Mets, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact Luis Garcia was initially in line to start the Astros' first game of the week, but he's instead been pushed back two days in the schedule to start the team's standalone game against the Yankees in Houston on Thursday. With Valdez moving up a day in the pitching schedule as a result of the adjustment, he'll now be on tap for a two-start week. His second turn is expected to come Sunday at home against the Angels.

Posts quality start in no-decision Valdez allowed three runs on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Thursday.

Impact Three of the five baserunners Valdez allowed were in the first inning, which saw him yield a three-run home run to Giancarlo Stanton. Electric in complete game win Valdez (5-2) earned the win Monday after he tossed a complete game, giving up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven against the Athletics.

Impact Valdez was very effective Monday, notching 75 strikes on 115 pitches while tossing a season-high nine innings. The only blemish against him came in the bottom of the sixth frame when Ramon Laureano ripped an RBI single.
