Quality start in win Tuesday Valdez (4-2) got the win Tuesday after he tossed seven innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits while striking out four versus the Guardians.
Impact Valdez gave up a solo home run to Jose Ramirez in the first inning before later surrendering one run in both the sixth and seventh frames. The outing was his sixth consecutive quality start and third outing in a row where he tossed at least seven innings. The 28-year-old also avoided walking a batter for the first time in 2022. Outside of one poor outing versus the Angels on April 19 where he allowed six runs in 4.1 innings, Valdez has been dominant this season, giving up three or fewer runs in eight starts. He owns a 2.83 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 43 strikeouts over 54 frames this year.

Impact Valdez surrendered his lone earned run in the first inning. From there, he allowed only three runners to reach scoring position while turning in his fifth consecutive quality start. Impact Valdez was handed a 5-0 lead before he stepped onto the mound and never looked likely to let Washington back in the game. He didn't allow a baserunner with less than two outs until the sixth inning, when a leadoff single from Juan Soto was quickly countered by a double play. He finally ran into trouble in the seventh inning, giving up a run on a fielder's choice after allowing the first two batters to reach base safely, but that wasn't enough to make it anything but a very strong outing for Valdez, who now owns a 2.93 ERA. He'll look to lower that mark Thursday against the Rangers.

Impact Valdez has now posted three quality starts in his first five outings this season, but the Astros were unable to generate much offensive production in Sunday's 3-2 loss. The southpaw completed five scoreless frames to begin the game but gave up three runs in the sixth and seventh prior to his removal. However, Valdez threw 101 pitches in the defeat and now has a 3.42 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 26.1 innings this year. He tentatively lines up to start Saturday's game against the Tigers at home.

Impact Valdez was regularly in danger in the latter half of his start, as he allowed multiple hitters to reach base in each of his final three frames. Impact Valdez allowed a run each in the second and fourth inning and was able to limit the damage thanks to a double-play and an outfield assist. He retired Shohei Ohtani to start the fifth but then gave up four consecutive singles and was replaced. Following an excellent Opening Day start, the 28-year-old has struggled over his next two starts, allowing 20 baserunners and seven runs in just 7.1 innings. His next start is scheduled for Sunday in Texas.
