Sent to minors The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Harris was sent to the minors to clear a spot on the 26-man roster for reliever Angel Perdomo, whom the Athletics claimed off waivers from the Angels. After he was unable to win a spot in the Athletics' season-opening rotation during spring training, Harris headed to the bullpen and collected a hold in his lone relief appearance Saturday against the Mariners prior to being demoted. Harris could get stretched back out as a starter with Las Vegas.

Impact Harris shuffled between Triple-A and the majors last season despite productive numbers but finally established himself in the bullpen late in the season. He had a 2.50 ERA with a 19:8 K:BB ratio in 18 innings after being called up from Triple-A in late August last season. He had a strong 24.1% strikeout rate at Triple-A last season and 20% in the majors, but will need to reduce his walks to stay in the majors.

Takes fourth loss Saturday Harris (4-4) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing a game-winning solo home run to the only batter he faced.

Impact Closer Mason Miller had garnered a 21-pitch save Friday night, so Harris was called on to preserve a 6-6 tie in the ninth Saturday. There wasn't much suspense before he proved he wasn't up to the task, as Andrew Benintendi took Harris deep to right field on the fourth pitch he saw from the right-hander for the game-winning hit. Harris was fresh after last having pitched Tuesday, but the stumble resulted in the third run he'd allowed over the last four appearances (4.2 innings).

Picks up fourth win Tuesday Harris (4-3) got the extra-innings win against the Astros on Tuesday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over two innings. He struck out three.

Impact Harris breezed through his first frame in the 11th while preserving a 2-2 tie, recording strikeouts on two of the three hitters he faced. He returned for the 12th after the Athletics had rallied for two runs in the top half of the frame, and although he allowed a double to Jose Altuve that plated phantom runner Jason Heyward to open the inning, he subsequently bore down and retired the dangerous trio of Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman to end the game. Harris has been effective out of the bullpen since his return to the big-league club in late August, mustering a 2-0 record, 0.93 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 9.2 innings over five appearances.

Earns win in stellar relief outing Harris (3-3) got the win against the Mariners on Tuesday, firing three scoreless innings during which he allowed two walks and recorded three strikeouts.

Impact Harris took over following a quality start from rookie J.T. Ginn and put together a highly efficient long-relief effort, requiring only 37 pitches to record nine outs. The left-hander helped keep the Mariners at bay and then reaped the rewards when Seth Brown hit a walk-off single, affording Harris the first victory of his current big-league stint. Harris is likely to continue being used in a relief role down the stretch, although multi-inning outings will likely be the norm given he's capable of tolerating the elevated workloads.

Impact Harris has been relatively effective in the big leagues this season, putting up a 2.98 ERA and 1.44 WHIP across 54.1 innings. However, he's turned in a 4.94 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 27.1 frames since being sent to Triple-A in late July. He'll presumably work out of the bullpen until he's able to find some consistency, at which point he could return to Oakland's rotation. Dany Jimenez was optioned to Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

Impact The elevated metrics are largely the result of Harris' last two starts, when he's surrendered 12 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits (three home runs) and five walk across 9.1 innings. In contrast, Harris' first three starts upon returning to the Aviators saw him replicate much of the same success he'd enjoyed at the big-league level, as he'd pitched to a 2-0 record, 2.00 ERA and 11.0 K/9 in that span. Control has clearly been a persistent issue at both levels for Harris, however, and it remains to be seen if the southpaw can build some momentum before the minor-league season concludes and subsequently log at least a couple of more starts with the Athletics before the end of the major-league campaign.
