Following opener Friday Harris will serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Shintaro Fujinami in Friday's game in Miami, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Impact Oakland had previously been listing Harris as its starter for the series opener, but he'll instead handle a bulk-relief role in his second straight turn through the Athletics rotation. Harris will attempt to deliver a performance on par with what he provided last Saturday, when he blanked the Astros over five innings while striking out five and allowing only two baserunners.

Impact Harris will be making a second straight turn through the Oakland rotation, this time operating as a traditional starter after he served as a bulk reliever his last time out. In his return to the big leagues last Saturday, Harris turned in one of the best performances from an Oakland pitcher all season, limiting a tough Astros lineup to one hit and one walk while striking out five over five scoreless frames.

Impact The rookie lefty was brilliant in a bulk relief role, tossing 54 of 77 pitches for strikes, but unfortunately for the A's, opener Austin Pruitt dug a quick 2-0 hole and the team's offense never closed the gap. Harris had just been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, and while this was an impressive performance, he was just as impressively bad in his big-league debut back on April 14 against the Mets (six runs in one-third of an inning.) It's not clear what Oakland's plan is for Harris, but he's likely to get shuffled back to Vegas for a fresh arm with Paul Blackburn (finger) expected to rejoin the rotation Monday.

Since being sent down April 15, Harris has produced a 3.42 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 25 punchouts over 26.1 in six starts with Las Vegas. In a corresponding move, Adrian Martinez was optioned to Triple-A to create a spot for Harris on the major-league roster.
