Chris Gittens - Returns from IL Gittens (knee) has gone 5-for-14 with a walk, an RBI and a run in four games for Triple-A Sugar Land since being reinstated the 7-day injured list last Thursday.

Impact Gittens had been sidelined all season at Triple-A after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee early in spring training and requiring surgery. The 30-year-old doesn't possess a spot on Houston's 40-man roster and will face an uphill battle to make it back to the majors, where he last appeared in 2021 as a member of the Yankees.

Shawn Dubin - Shifts back to bullpen Dubin has made his last three appearances out of the Houston bullpen, striking out three while allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk across 2.2 innings.

Impact Dubin made 3.1- and 2.2-inning starts on June 30 and July 5, respectively, but he was moved back to the bullpen after the Astros got Jake Bloss back from the injured list shortly before the All-Star break to fill out the final spot in their rotation. Though he notched a three-inning save May 16, Dubin has otherwise operated in a low-leverage role out of the bullpen this season, as he hasn't recorded any holds over his 17 relief appearances.

Luis Garcia - Pulled off rehab assignment Garcia (elbow) has been pulled off his rehab assignment, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Impact Garcia had made two rehab starts and didn't bounce back well from his last one on July 4, with the Astros limiting him to playing catch since then. It does not appear to be a major setback at this point, but Garcia will re-start a 30-day rehab window once the team feels he's ready. Clearly, a return to the major-league rotation won't be happening anytime soon. Garcia is coming back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent last May.

Victor Caratini - Starting rehab assignment The Astros sent Caratini (hip) to their Florida Complex League affiliate on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment.

Impact Caratini has been shelved since late June with a left hip flexor strain but has been cleared for rehab games. The veteran catcher shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before being activated, with a return early on in the second half likely.

Ronel Blanco - Takes tough-luck loss Blanco (9-4) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts across six innings.

Impact All the damage against Blanco came in the first inning, when Josh Smith launched a two-run home run. However, the Astros only managed to score one run until the ninth inning, sticking Blanco with the loss despite logging a quality start. The 30-year-old has been outstanding this season, owning a 2.56 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over 109.0 innings at the halfway point. Before 2024, Blanco had a career 4.78 ERA in 58.1 innings and had primarily been utilized out of the bullpen, making him one of baseball's biggest breakouts so far.

Impact Meyers' third-inning solo home run off Max Scherzer was the Astros' only run until the ninth inning. Sunday's performance marked Meyers' first multi-hit game since June 29. The 28-year-old will take a .242/.312/.424 slash line, 10 homers and seven stolen bases into the All-Star break.

Impact Verlander used his entire arsenal in the session and finished the bullpen without incident, per McTaggart. He had originally been expected to toss 10-to-15 pitches, so all signs are that he's trending in a positive direction. A timeframe for Verlander's return isn't yet clear, but it is possible that he could rejoin Houston's rotation before the end of July.

Spencer Arrighetti - Delivers quality start Saturday Arrighetti came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Rangers, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

Impact The rookie right-hander needed 85 pitches (53 strikes) to produce his third quality start of the season as he got locked in a pitchers' duel with Nathan Eovaldi. Arrighetti has had his moments, but he's been very erratic this season, and since the beginning of June he has only one win in eight outings with a 5.20 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 42:21 K:BB through 36.1 innings. Those numbers are good enough to keep him in the rotation coming out of the All-Star break, but Arrighetti could eventually lose his spot if Houston adds significant reinforcements to its staff, either from the injured list or at the trade deadline.
