Impact Heyward hasn't played since Tuesday, possibly due to the injury, so the transaction can be backdated, allowing him to return Aug. 14. It's not yet clear if he'll be healthy enough to do so. Even once he returns, he could see his playing time reduced, as the Cubs fully committed to a rebuild at the deadline and likely want to see what their younger players have to offer. Greg Deichmann, one such younger player who was recently acquired in a trade with the Athletics, was called up in a corresponding move.
