Breaks out of slump Adell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, double and an additional RBI in Monday's 8-2 victory over the Marlins.

Impact Adell made the most of a surprise start due to a late Mike Trout scratch and delivered with his best line of the young season by far. He took opposing starter Elieser Hernandez 430-feet deep to center in the second inning and later tacked on an RBI double in the eighth for his first hits this year. Adell should continue to see a part-time role until he finally delivers on his lofty potential.

Impact Adell sat both Friday and Saturday in favor of Brandon Marsh and Jose Rojas. He'll return to the lineup Sunday, with Marsh being the odd-man out. As it currently stands, Mike Trout is the only everyday outfielder in Los Angeles, with Marsh, Adell and Rojas competing for the corner spots.

Impact Early indications seem to be that Adell is stuck in a platoon role for now. He started in left field on Opening Day against lefty Framber Valdez but has been on the bench against righties Jake Odorizzi and Justin Verlander. Brandon Marsh starts in left field Saturday, with Jose Rojas in right. That's the second straight start for Rojas, who appears to be taking the at-bats that were previously ticketed for Taylor Ward (groin).

Impact Maddon had previously said that all three of the trio of outfielders were targeted for 450 to 500 at-bats over the course of the season, but his statement Thursday suggests that Ward was likely to see more playing time than his young counterparts. Ward's injury threw a wrench into the stated plan before the regular season kicked off, and it remains to be seen if Maddon will stick to the scenario upon Ward's return. It's notable that Adell was held out of the starting lineup Friday in just the second game of the regular season while Marsh started in left field and Jose Rojas took over in right. Adell and/or Marsh could potentially cement an everyday role with a strong start to the campaign, but Adell has struggled mightily out of the gate, going 0-for-5 with five strikeouts so far.

Primed for at least 450 at-bats Angels managers Joe Maddon said Saturday that he wants to get each of Adell, Brandon Marsh and Taylor Ward 450 to 500 at-bats this season, Scott Bordow of MLB.com reports.

Impact Adell is penciled into a starting role in right field for the Angels, with Marsh expected to be the team's starter in left. Ward is also expected to see plenty of time in the outfield, so none of the trio of players will necessarily take on a truly everyday workload. However, the organization's decision Saturday to DFA Justin Upton opens up more playing time for all three. Adell has enjoyed a strong spring, slashing .273/.306/.636 with three home runs, eight RBI and three stolen bases over 36 plate appearances.
