Signs two-year extension Schoop signed a two-year, $15 million contract extension with the Tigers on Saturday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Impact The deal has an opt out after the 2022 season. Schoop was considered a trade candidate leading up to the July 30 deadline, but the Tigers held onto him and will now have him for at least one more season. The 29-year-old, who is slashing .289/.333/.468 with 18 home runs, 19 doubles and 64 RBI this season, is enjoying his best offensive campaign since 2017 with Baltimore. Schoop provides a bit of defensive versatility with his ability to move around the right side of the infield, although he's probably a better fit at first base, where he's played 75 games in 2021, at this point in his career.

Impact Schoop did all the damage for the Tigers in the 4-1 defeat, and the veteran infielder has been solid all season with 18 home runs and a .799 OPS. However, this was his first long ball since July 18 and only his third since the beginning of July. By contrast, Schoop had 10 home runs in June. While that homer surge was unlikely to last, it would be nice to see the 29-year-old finish the season with an uptick in the power department compared to his recent results.
