INJURIES

Recalled by Angels Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Suarez was sent down by the Angels on May 1, and he posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 10 innings over two starts in the minors. The Angels currently have six starters on their major-league roster, so Suarez will likely be available out of the bullpen for now after Cesar Valdez was designated for assignment.

Demoted to minors The Angels optioned Suarez to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Suarez was demoted after he surrendered all four of the White Sox's runs while giving up eight hits and two walks over four innings in Saturday's 4-0 loss. The southpaw went 0-2 across his first four starts, submitting a 6.35 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 15:11 K:BB across 17 frames. Assuming the Angels elect to keep their six-man rotation intact, long reliever Jaime Barria could be the top candidate to pick up a start when Suarez's turn comes up again Friday versus the Nationals.

Impact Five of the hits Suarez allowed went for extra bases, and he wound up on the wrong side of the decision for the second time in four starts. He has not been eating up many innings for the Angels, as he has not made it out of the fifth inning all season.
MAY 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out six in no-decision Suarez allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in 4.1 innings while striking out six in a 7-6 win Sunday over Baltimore. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Suarez was the beneficiary of a six-run first inning by the Angels' offense but was unable to get through the fifth to put himself in line for the victory. All of the damage against him came on a three-run homer by Trey Mancini in the third inning. The lefty has pitched 4.1 innings in all three of his starts, allowing two or three runs in each appearance. After allowing a career-low 3.3 BB/9 in 2021, the 24-year-old has walked nine in 13 innings this season. His next start will likely come next weekend against the White Sox.
APRIL 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
No-decision against Texas Suarez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rangers after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.1 innings.
Impact Suarez wasn't involved in the decision but took a step back compared to his season debut, as he gave up more runs and more hits than in that outing while failing to complete five innings for the second straight outing. As if that wasn't enough, Suarez has also struggled with his command and owns a 5:7 K:BB across 8.2 innings in 2022. He's tabbed to make his next start Sunday at home against Baltimore.
APRIL 18, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Suffers first loss Suarez (0-1) was handed the loss during Sunday's 4-1 defeat by Houston, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Impact Suarez was able to escape a bases-loaded one-out jam in the third but didn't have as much luck in the fifth inning, when reliever Austin Warren allowed both inherited runners to score and put Suarez in line for the loss. Manager Joe Maddon is reluctant to let Suarez through opponents' orders a third time as he's only reached six innings in one of 15 starts over the past two seasons, which severely limits his upside. The 24-year-old lefty is slated to take the hill next Sunday in Texas.
APRIL 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Opening season in rotation Suarez is projected to be one of the Angels' six starters this season, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
Impact Suarez notched a 4.44 ERA across 14 starts for the Angels last season, and that was enough for the team to give him the chance to retain his role in the rotation to begin 2022 despite the fact that his numbers (including a 1.98 ERA) were better out of the bullpen. The southpaw fared well enough in Cactus League play, posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB across 10 innings. He likely won't have a long leash if he struggles out of the gate during the regular season, however.

Ends season with win Suarez (8-8) earned the win Friday over Seattle after allowing one run on three hits and two walks across five innings, striking out five.
Impact Suarez had given up three or more earned runs in each of his last two appearances, but he closed out the season with a strong performance en route to his eighth win of the campaign. The 23-year-old southpaw finishes the year with a career-high 23 appearances (14 starts) while logging a 3.75 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP through 98.1 innings, all of them being career-best marks for him.

Allows four runs in no-decision Suarez allowed four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out one across five innings in the loss to the Mariners on Friday. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Suarez surrendered a solo home run by Ty France in the first inning. In addition, he allowed three doubles that contributed towards three more runs. He hasn't allowed more than four runs in any start this season, and he has a 3.41 ERA over his last five starts. On the season, the 23-year-old has a 3.86 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 80 punchouts in 93.1 innings.

Suffers eighth loss Suarez (7-8) took the loss in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Athletics, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Impact Suarez eventually settled down after surrendering all three runs in the first inning on three hits and a walk, but Los Angeles was never able to recover from the early hole. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the 23-year-old who has now gone at least 5.2 innings in each of his last three starts. Suarez is set to take the hill against the Astros on Thursday.
SEPTEMBER 19, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up second straight win Suarez (7-7) picked up the victory Saturday against Houston, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He also had seven strikeouts.
Impact That's back-to-back stellar outings for the 23-year-old, who limited the high-powered Astros to a Yuli Gurriel RBI groundout in the fourth inning. Suarez boasts a 3.59 ERA in his 20 appearances (11 starts) this season, logging a 76:31 K:BB in 82.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face Oakland at home in his next start.

Suarez scheduled to start for Los Angeles against Houston

The Astros are expected to send Luis Garcia to the mound Saturday and the Angels will give Jose Suarez the start
SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 • Associated Press
Dazzles in complete game Suarez (6-7) got the win in Saturday's 4-1 victory over the Rangers, allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts in a complete game.
Impact Suarez showed the promise Los Angeles desperately needed on Saturday, retiring the first nine Rangers he faced and never facing any real threats. He took a shutout into the ninth but permitted Texas' lone run with one out and was still able to slam the door on the resounding victory. The outing was only Suarez second without surrendering any free passes and the eight strikeouts are his most in any start. He currently lines up to face Houston next weekend.

Permissible versus Pads Suarez started Saturday's 10-2 victory over San Diego, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. He didn't factor into the decision.
Impact Suarez didn't pitch well -- throwing 73 pitches in less than four innings -- but Los Angeles jumped out to an early lead that it was able to extend handily. The lefty has now gone less than five innings in each of his last two starts and lines up to face Texas next weekend.

Suarez expected to start as Angels host the Padres

The Angels are expected to send Jose Suarez to the mound Saturday and the Padres plan to give Ryan Weathers the start
AUGUST 28, 2021 • Associated Press
Lasts four innings in defeat Suarez (5-7) took the loss in Sunday's 3-0 shutout against Cleveland, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.
Impact Suarez didn't have his best stuff Sunday as he permitted a season-high nine baserunners and had traffic on the bases during all four innings. Given his age (23) and Los Angeles' struggling rotation paired with waning playoff hopes, Suarez should have a spot in the rotation for the rest of the season barring injury.
AUGUST 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out six in loss Suarez (5-6) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six in five innings to take the loss against the Yankees on Monday.
Impact Suarez hadn't allowed fewer than three earned runs in any of his first four starts after the All-Star break, but he fared slightly better in Monday's outing. However, the southpaw was tagged with his sixth loss of the season in the low-scoring contest. Across his last five starts, Suarez has recorded a 6.12 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 25 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Cleveland on Sunday.
AUGUST 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up four runs in nightcap Suarez (5-5) was tagged with the loss in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays after allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk across 5.1 innings. He struck out...
Impact Suarez got off to a rough start and gave up two runs in the first inning, and while he settled down afterwards, he lacked run support to even think about a potential turnaround. The left-hander departed the game in the top of the sixth after allowing back-to-back singles to Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez -- both would later score on a two-run single from Lourdes Gurriel. The 23-year-old southpaw has given up at least three runs in each of his last four appearances and owns a 5.79 ERA across 28 innings since the beginning of July (six starts).
AUGUST 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns win against Rangers Suarez (5-4) allowed three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.2 innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Rangers.
Impact Suarez was given significant run support by the Angel offense, which allowed him to cruise to his fifth win of the season. Though he wasn't dominant, the majority of the damage against him came on a two-run home run by Andy Ibanez in Suarez's final inning of work. Entering the game, Suarez had issued nine walks while striking out 15 across his last 17 frames -- a span of four starts -- so his 6:1 K:BB in this outing is noteworthy. For the season, Suarez has maintained a 3.60 ERA across 50 innings.
AUGUST 4, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Bumped back in pitching schedule Suarez is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Rangers in Arlington.
Impact Suarez initially appeared on track to start Monday's series opener, but the Angels instead elected to push him back a day in the pitching schedule to open up a spot in the rotation for Chris Rodriguez. The change will likely result in Suarez missing out on a two-start week, though he at least draws a favorable matchup Tuesday versus a Rangers offense that has produced an MLB-worst 52 wRC+ since the All-Star break.
