Likely starting Wednesday Sears will likely be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Wednesday's game against the Orioles, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Impact Sears made two relief appearances for the Yankees early in the season and tossed two scoreless innings before being sent down in mid-April. However, he's worked mainly as a starter at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and has posted a 1.25 ERA and 0.61 WHIP in 21.2 innings over six appearances (four starts). The Yankees need a spot starter after Sunday's doubleheader against the White Sox, so Sears will likely step in to make his first major-league start during Wednesday's home matchup.

He also was awarded the win Saturday against the Orioles prior to being optioned, and he should be promoted to the major-league roster to contribute out of the bullpen at some point again during the campaign.

Impact Sears was protected from the Rule 5 draft in November, and he'll be available to make his major-league debut to begin the 2022 campaign. The southpaw progressed to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year and posted a 2.87 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 53.1 innings across 10 starts. He should be able to serve as a bulk reliever or spot starter in the big leagues.
