Exercises 2022 option Profar informed the Padres on Wednesday that he'll exercise his $6.5 million player option for 2022, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Impact Profar opened the 2021 season as a utility player for San Diego, but his ability to play all over the infield and outfield allowed him to pick up semi-regular playing time for much of the campaign while the Padres contended with both injuries and endured slumps from multiple everyday players. The 28-year-old did little to raise the offensive floor for the Padres when he was included in the lineup, as he finished with a .093 ISO and .649 OPS after clearing .150 and .700 in those respective categories each of the previous three seasons. The deal Profar signed with the Padres last January includes player options for both 2022 and 2023 and a $10 million mutual option for 2024, so he'll still have the opportunity to weigh his options on the open market in both of the next two offseasons, if he so chooses.
